SuperCoach NBL trade guide: Who to buy, hold, sell for round 3

Strong start to SuperCoach NBL, or things didn’t go as planned?
It doesn’t matter if your team is charging or flopping, Benny, Banksy and Boydie – the Basketball Blokes – are here to assist with tips to help you rebound.
These are the players you should consider buying, holding and selling in your SuperCoach NBL side for round 3.
SELL
Sell of the week: Mitch Creek $380,800 FWD
While Creek’s three-game average of 30-plus SuperCoach points may have made him worth the hold last week, a single game match-up against the Tasmania JackJumpers in round 3 is cause to sell. With a Break Even of 43 for the upcoming round, it is more than likely that Creek will see another price drop. The JackJumpers play with the slowest pace of all teams in the league, which is generally not ideal conditions for SuperCoach scoring. They kept the Sydney Kings to a season-low team total of 139 SuperCoach points (the Kings have scored 191 and 227 points in their other two contests) The JJs also managed to keep Luke Travers to a team-high 22 SuperCoach points last round; and while this may be a reflection on the even nature of the United roster, we think there are enough red flags to sell Creek this week. He will once again be a trade target next week, albeit, likely a cheaper one.
Others to consider selling
Tyler Cook (SEM) $266,900 CTR/FWD
Seemingly just moments after landing a trademark slam on Sam Waardenburg, it was a second drive into Waardenburg that saw Tyler on the ground in pain. A stray finger to the eye saw Cook ruled out of the game against the Taipans (and subsequently miss the Phoenix’s second match of the round), Mike Kelly receiving a tech foul and a quarter of all SuperCoaches hurting alongside him. Cook was considered a game-time decision leading into the Illawarra game in round 2. We will need to keep an eye out for injury news for Cook and Alan Williams. If Cook is to play this week, he would be a very valuable player to have in round 4 when only SEM, United and the 36ers play two matches. However, if Alan Williams returns that week, Tyler will not be able to play for the Phoenix in that round (this assumes no other injuries to SEM imports).
Aron Baynes (BRI) $233,900 CTR
It was quite literally a sunshine stoush as Baynes was ejected from the game after receiving multiple technical fouls voicing his disapproval of an earlier rebounding contrast with Lat Mayen. With the league also investigating an alleged physical altercation between Baynes and Taipans coach Adam Forde during halftime, we need to monitor news of any suspension. If he misses any time, consider Tyrell Harrison and Rocco Zikarsky as players that would see a boost in court time.
Trentyn Flowers (ADL) $98,900 GRD
Flowers had 10 minutes of court time in his last contest. This was boosted by the game being a blowout after he only saw six minutes the game prior. Flowers maintains over 21 per cent ownership at the time of writing. As we are looking until at least round 5 for Taran Armstrong to return, ideally you would trade Trentyn up to a guard making some money.
Taran Armstrong (CRN) $69,000 GRD
Taran will not play until at least round 5 and is still owned by over 15% of the competition. Armstrong will not change price until at least round 6. You should try and restructure in the interim to have a player producing points for you during that time.

HOLD
Hold of the Week: Cairns Taipans?
The hold segment this week is dedicated to our Cairns Taipans players, who are heading over to the USA to take on the Washington Wizard and Toronto Raptors. Above we listed a few interesting players with low Break Evens that play zero games this round. In the case of the Taipans, they play zero games over rounds 3 and 4, but then have the single best run of double game rounds of any team this season.
We could very well want Klintman, Mennenga and Armstrong as cheaper options during that run, so is it worth the trade out and the trade back in again (potentially using a boost)? In the case of Bobi Klintman, the hold looks a genuinely viable option. He has scores of 42 and 29 that will carry over to his next price change calculation after round 5, which will lead to a big price rise again. As your bench only scores half points, if you can work around Bobi and make sure you have two quality starters in his absence, strongly consider holding.
If you have Ariel Hukporti at your centre position, you can also elect to hold Mennenga. Despite a poor score last round, Mennenga was a strong performer throughout the Blitz, and if you can trade in your centre position to maintain double game coverage, he could be worth holding.
Other players to consider holding:
Ben Ayre (SEM) $125,700 GRD
Ayre has lost his status of being playable on your starting court since the return of Gary Browne, but he can still be held to potentially maintain his price while having occasional splash scoring games.
Matthew Dellevadova (MEL) $270,000 GRD
We moved Delly off the “buy” list having seen Ian Clark play more minutes than Delly on his return. However, we still think that owners should be satisfied in holding Dellevadova through Melbourne’s fantastic upcoming schedule.
BANKSY’S BARGAINS
Each week Banksy will rank his favourite bargain players regardless of schedule.
1. Jaylin Galloway (SYD) $177,900 GRD
Jaylin increased in price more than any other player in the competition last round, receiving a $54k boost to his starting price tag. Jaylin had a game-high 43 SuperCoach points in his last game against Adelaide, which will remain in his next price increase cycle, where he is projected for another $36k increase. His 24 minutes and five steals are a highlight, as he continues to take his opportunity with DJ Hogg on the sidelines. His 30 point SuperCoach average for under $178k can no longer be ignored.
2. Sam McDaniel (BRI) $158,200 GRD/FWD
We didn’t see Sammy on this list last week, but even with the return of DJ Mitchell he continued to shine. Scores of 16 and 30 are of extreme value at his price tag, but what has impressed me more are the minutes. Thanks to his defensive ability, McDaniel earnt himself 29 and 32 court minutes over the past two games, cementing himself as one of the more valuable players at his $158k price tag, complete with that guard and forward flexibility. McDaniel owners are looking at a predicted $30k price increase this week, the third-best in the competition.
3. Justin Robinson (ILL) $277,000 GRD
An average of 36 and an impressive 48 SuperCoach point outing against the Phoenix has Robinson looking down the barrel of a competition best $44k predicted price hike next round. He had a huge second half against SEM to finish with a 26 point, five rebound and seven assist line, but the kicker was he played a team-high 34 minutes – up from his 25 minutes the game prior. Jump on, because Justin Robinson is ready to explode.
4. Alexandre Sarr (PER) $146,600 FWD/CTR
Wow, what a finish for Sarr in his single game in round 2, hitting a couple of big triples down the stretch to ice the game, showing he is more than capable from long range. This resulted in a $32k increase to his price tag with a predicted $24k more to come this week. Still under $147k and coming off 28 SuperCoach points in just 20 minutes, Sarr is heading into two big games against Melbourne and Sydney, where he will no doubt look to further strengthen his NBA draft prospects.
5. Ariel Hukporti (MEL) $209,200 CTR
He may have increased by $37k this week, but he is still underpriced at $209k following his 28 point SuperCoach average over his first three games. He is leading the league in rebounds per game pulling down 10.3 a game, and continues to improve his game on the offensive end – scoring five, 10 and now 15 points in his most recent game.
BUY
Buy of the Week: Milton Doyle (TAS) $353,500 GRD
If you didn’t take our advice and pick up Doyle last week, then I think you should be reconsidering that decision this week. The smooth operator had 65 SuperCoach points for the round; and once again Tassie has a double game round ahead. They host Illawarra at home for the first game of the round, followed by a road trip to battle South East Melbourne. We think both may struggle to contain Doyle when he gets rolling. His Break Even is listed at 62 SuperCoach points across the two games which seems attainable given Doyle’s 34 point average so far. He is almost $100k cheaper than our next buy recommendation and is a genuine captaincy option this round – so buy, buy, buy.
BOYDIE’S BEST BUYS
Each week Boydie will rank the other best buys for the week ahead.
1. Bryce Cotton (PER) $440,900 GRD
He was a sell last week, but Bryce should be on any buy list when he is on a double game round. He is averaging 33 SuperCoach points for the year; and with Perth having two marquee match-ups this round against Melbourne United and Sydney, you know what to expect. We could see brilliant moments, bulk minutes and most likely big production from Bryce this week. Keep in mind that his Break Even is still quite high and he will likely be on the sell list again next week due to the Perth schedule becoming sparse.
2. Nathan Sobey (BRI) $316,900 GRD
We are always wary of mentioning Sobes as he has a reputation of being a little Jekyll and Hyde with fantasy scores. However, he is currently the second-highest averaging SuperCoach scoring player which warrants a buy recommendation despite the tough double against Sydney and Melbourne for round 3.
3. Justin Robinson (ILL) $227,000 GRD
See Banksy’s Bargains above. In addition to this, his lower score from round 1 will drop out of his first price calculation at the conclusion of this round. Bring him in!
4. Lachlan Olbrich (ILL) $69,000 CTR/FWD
Lachy’s scores don’t jump out of the page as much as the above players, with 18 and 10 SuperCoach points for the Hawks round 2 and 1 games respectively, but this game is not only about scoring points, it’s about value appreciation too, and Lachy has a nice low Break Even of 1 heading into round 3 so he should see a nice little price rise to help with future upgrades or just to bench stash
