SuperCoach NBL trade guide: Who to buy, hold, sell for round 11

The experts have spoken and these are the players to target and avoid in SuperCoach NBL round 11 – with ‘Big Sauce’ top of the buy list.

It doesn’t matter if your team is charging or flopping.

These are the players you should consider buying, holding and selling in your SuperCoach NBL side for round 11.

SELL

Sells of the week: Jaylen Adams (SYD) $354,100 GRD and DJ Hogg (SYD) $352,100 FWD

These Kings did not bear the gifts of SuperCoach points that their owners would have hoped for in round 10. It was a promising start having traversed to Cairns in their opening game of the round. However, the lack of air-conditioning in the venue seemed to take its toll; and owners will have been incensed with scores of 17 to Adams and 13 to Hogg against South East Melbourne.

The King’s schedule does demonstrate some value in holding Adams and Hogg with round 14 being of particular significance. However, there are some very expensive premium options in the buys of the week; and if you have to sell either of these Kings to make it happen, we give that more our royal seal of approval.

Other players to consider selling ...

Josh Roberts (CRN) $142,700 FWD

Lots of Josh Bannan owners were faced with a dilemma last week given the likelihood that he would miss with concussion symptoms. For those that decided to trade, Roberts was an enticing option. An import cash foul who had dropped in price and was finally given his opportunity by Forde after an injury interrupted season to date. Against the best big man combo in the league, Roberts excelled producing 38 SuperCoach points. Named the starter again this week, many felt comfortable taking the risk of starting Roberts. It was a disaster. Sub-10 minutes played and sub-10 SuperCoach points scored was enough to submarine those owners’ rounds. Does he sink your season if you hold? HOLD

Hold of the Week: Jonah Bolden (SYD) $282,300 FWD/CTR

Jonah owners will have been emboldened by his performance against South East Melbourne. Having experienced foul trouble against the Taipans, Bolden rebounded with a 37 SuperCoach point performance. He matched Alan Williams’ 15 rebound performance and had 15 points of his own. Bolden is a hold compared to his aforementioned teammates because of his price. Bolden can ideally be held on your bench and would require significant cash on top of his value to get some of our buys of the round. For those reasons we approve hold’n Bolden.  

Other players to consider holding:

Taran Armstrong (CRN) $150,700 GRD

Coming off his first price decrease of the season, you may be wondering if you can now trade Taran. Whilst there are some value guard options around, Armstrong is a low priority trade out option. The lack of minutes in his last game are concerning to the point that you may want to plan ahead to ensure you do not need to start Taran at any point in the remainder of the season. However, he remains a fine bench option that can continue to score around his price point along with his perfect schedule over the next 3 rounds. 

BANKSY’S BARGAINS

Each week Banksy will rank his favourite cheap players (under 201.9k) regardless of schedule. 

1. Matt Kenyon (SEM) $158,200 GRD

After Craig Moller went down with injury after 6 minutes of play in Round 9, Kenyon played a season high 28 minutes. In the first full game since Moller was ruled out for the season and the Phoenix having parted ways with Will Cummings and Kenyon was required to play 34 minutes. The result was two of his highest SuperCoach scores for the season with 20 and 25 point games. Priced at just 13 points, the Phoenix will remain shorthanded and will be forced to play Kenyon big minutes. Until the Phoenix add to their roster, Kenyon holds value and has the additional appeal of four games over the next two weeks.   

2. Bobi Klintman (CRN) $201,900 FWD

Two missed games due to a hip complaint, a 6 minute game in between resulting in just 8 SuperCoach points and return scores of 11 and 16, but Bobi Klintman was back in Round 10. 19 (13 points, 4 rebounds) and 27 (22 points, 3 rebounds) SuperCoach point games from 19 and 23 minutes see Bobi heading into Round 11 with a breakeven of 25 between Cairns two slated games. Priced at 17 SuperCoach points, Klintman finds himself underpriced again and has shown his ability to score well previously, with scores of 42 and 30 earlier in the season.

3. Ben Ayre (SEM) $113,700 GRD

A season high 35 minutes against the Sydney Kings in round 10, naturally resulted in a season high 22 SuperCoach points. Like Kenyon, Ayre was and will remain a beneficiary of opportunity whilst SEM Phoenix remain shorthanded. Keep an eye on a potential import signing replacement for Will Cummings, but whilst Ayre is playing minutes in the 30’s at a price of under 10 SuperCoach points, he remains a cheaper option with back to back doubles.

4. Nick Marshall (ADL) $64,200 FWD

We have watched and waited for Marshall to get his opportunity as a fantasy prospect for a couple of seasons now. With a new coach, Dech and Cadee not seeing any run, and McCarron playing just 10 minutes against Cairns last game, the direction is clear. The SuperCoach scores aren’t there yet, but the minutes are promising after playing 15 and 19 minutes over his last two. You will be stretched to find another guy priced at under 6 points at this point of the season playing the minutes we are expecting for Marshall.  

5. Josh Roberts (CRN) $142,700 FWD

He was heavily traded in following the start and subsequent 38 SuperCoach point performance against Melbourne United, but owners would have been feeling deflated following scores of just 7 and 6 across Round 10. The good news for owners was that Roberts continued to get the start, which included starting alongside Waardenburg. It was reported that Roberts had a sore knee in the first game of Round 10 which may in part explain the low minutes in the first game. Roberts still has the schedule and he may well still have the starting role. If he can see the minutes he did against United, there is no doubting his value. But will the minutes return?    

BUY

Buy of the Week: Alan Williams (SEM) $453,600 CTR

Big scores, big price, ‘Big Sauce’ Alan Williams is our biggest and best buy of the round. The number 1 player in SuperCoach average, SuperCoach points per minute and leading the league in rebounding; it is time to get on the Sauce. South East Melbourne have consecutive double game rounds where they play Melbourne, Illawarra, Cairns and Tasmania.

Williams was soundly outplayed by Jo Lual-Acuil last time they met and will be hoping to rebound this time around. Other marquee matchups against Sam Froling and the Lee/Magnay combination will take place over the next 2 weeks. No matter how long you pore over the Sauce move; it feels like the buy of the round this week.

BOYDIE’S BEST BUYS

Each week Boydie ranks the other best buys for the week ahead.

1. Mitch Creek (SEM) $395,800 FWD

With consecutive doubles like Big Sauce Williams detailed above, Creeky is looking like a great option to bring into your side this week. Mitch is averaging 40 SuperCoach points a game over his last 3 games and has 4 40+ games over his last 7 games so his form is definitely not up the creek! While his scores against his upcoming opponents aren’t his best, most were earlier in the season when Creek was warming up for his recent form.

2. Jordon Crawford (TAS) $343,700 GRD

With Milton Doyle out, Crawford was needed to be the man for the JackJumpers over the weekend and indeed he was with 30 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists for 40 SuperCoach points. Some may say that high score can only be done with Doyle out of the side, but Crawford had scores of 35 and 34 in the 2 games before that with Doyle playing, so we think he is still a great option whether Milton is back or not.

3. Milton Doyle (TAS) $318,400 GRD

Milton was out for Round 10 due to the passing of his father. Our thoughts are with Milton’s family at this difficult time, but should Milton return for the JJ’s Round 11 double and subsequent double game round the week after too, there is no doubt Milton should be on your buy list. Milton averaged almost 30 SuperCoach points in his 4 games before missing last week and that includes a 7 he had against Cairns. In fact, Doyle had had 3 of his highest 6 SuperCoach scores across his last 4 games so form was looking on point.

4. Will Magnay (TAS) $277,200 FWD/CTR

Did you MagYay or MagNay when we first dared to mention big Willy in our best buys videos recently? While his 17 SuperCoach point effort last week had us feeling a little flat, he turned it around Round 10 with a 38 SuperCoach point game care of a 12 point/rebound double-double and chucked in a couple of steals and a block and assist for good measure. While we think he is a buy for sure, can he be started too based on his recent 38 and 50 SuperCoach point games?

5. Tahjere McCall/Patrick Miller

Rounding out my top 5 of the buys I’m just going to repeat myself here and put these 2 in as if you haven’t got them both yet then I’m not sure what you’re doing? McCall has been the top scorer for the Round and Miller has been the 2nd highest scorer for the Round 2 weeks in a row. 3 doubles in a row still to play.

6. Jaylin Galloway

While only a single here, a pair of 27 SuperCoach point games this round and now a low break even make Jaylin an bench stash option this round.

7. Gary Browne

While recent form isn’t that flash, Gary has had scores of 49 and 40 this season so with a couple of doubles in a row he warrants a bit of a look here.

8. Jack McVeigh

Ditto for Jack, recent form not as flash but for a slightly cheaper option that the premiums he could be worth a gamble.

9. Jo Lual Acuil

1-week rental territory here although the 19 in his last game a slight red flag.
