SuperCoach NBL experts reveal their revised trades for round 6

With six teams on the double this week, you’d think there’d be options aplenty for SuperCoach NBL experts. However, there’s a world of Hurt awaiting for those who miss a Phoenix big man.

SuperCoach NBL: Buy, Hold, Sell Round 4!

Get ready for a world of Hurt in NBL SuperCoach this week.

If you’re bringing in the South-East Melbourne Phoenix big man, then welcome to the world of Hurt – no scores below 25 for the season so far, three doubles on the run, and a projected score of 68.

If you’re not bringing Matt Hurt in, get ready for a world of hurt watching everyone else load up on the in-form dynamo.

But with a whopping six sides on the double this weekend SuperCoaches are spoiled for choice. We’ve badgered the experts to see who they’re bringing in.

MATT HICKEY

IN: Matt Hurt, Max Darling

OUT: Will Magnay, Kyrin Galloway

Let’s get doubly! Bringing in Phoenix big man Matt Hurt who has a nice run of doubles coming up, with Will Magnay on his way out. The big decision of the week was Max Darling or Angus Glover. Both are in line for great cash generation, but things have been a little more consistent in terms of role for Darling, plus he is a touch cheaper as well.

OUT: Montrzel Harrell, Lat Mayen

Remember in the original ‘Jurassic Park’ when the cowardly lawyer Donald Gennaro – the scaredy cat who abandons the two kids Lexi and Timmy – and, as a result, gets chomped by the T-Rex while hiding on the toilet?

Well, last week, my team was the lawyer and Melbourne United’s showing against SEM was the T-Rex … Which, to be fair, was probably better than some other coaches who had Derrick Walton Jr or Jaylen Adams as their Gennaro.

Anyway. Having already upgraded to PJC last week, I rolled the dice on bringing in Chris Goulding as well as a points play, knowing Bubbles and United have three straight doubles from this week on.

Unfortunately, Goulding’s score got chomped by SEM suddenly remembering how to play defence and win basketball games.

Now I find myself crossing every extremity I have that both Goulding and Jack White bounce back with big weeks … or I’m in trouble.

But with White and Goulding already in place, everything this week is geared to having every starter and a lot of my bench playing doubles.

As such, my trade decisions this week are easy. With SEM also on a run of three straight doubles, Matt Hurt replaces Trezz who is kindly thanked for his service, while my Lat Mayen experiment has been a ‘clogged a toilet at your in-laws’-level disaster.

First, Hurt, who has done nothing to, well, ‘hurt’ coaches so far, averaging a crazy 35.2 points and not once dropping below a score of 28. He’s got a super-high floor and a rock solid role and will be right in the mix for the ‘C’ this week.

Secondly … Lat’s left me flat: we got his 10k price rise after Round 3, which was good. Since then, Lat’s lost 17k, which is bad.

So out he goes in place of big Max Darling who, despite already rising 22k this week, has a BE of 3 this week and could easily earn coaches another 40-50k over the next two rounds with the Breakers on back-to-back doubles.

For the moment I’m sticking with Cam Oliver as the Kings are also on a run of doubles, but after last week’s 10-point outing, I’m tempted to boost and try to find a way to switch him to either Kristain Doolittle or Sam Mennenga.

But for now, I might stick with just the two, because towards the end of the season with trades and upgrades at a premium, not having a boost to use could be the biggest, most predictable ‘chomped lawyer on the dunny’ moment for my season.

The Panel – Episode 6: The Official SuperCoach NBL Show

JAMIE HUGHES (Usage Rate podcast)

IN: Ben Henshall, Matt Mooney

OUT: Keli Leaupepe, Cam Oliver

Heading into Round 6, my moves are again dictated by growing my team value. You must be thinking, trading two guys on the double? Crazy?! Hold up. Hear me out.

The Ins: Ben Henshall copped the axe last week, but unfortunately, no one saw a devastating blow sidelining Bryce Cotton (Time: TBC) coming. Benny showed great signs in the pre-season and will see an uptick in Usage Rate with the Bryce sidelined. Welcome back!

Matt Mooney can hoop! A clear number two on a team with great role clarity, two doubles incoming and a Break-Even of 36? Yes please. Money for jam.

The outs: Keli Leaupepe has had the highest price rise this far ($121.1K), but with a Break-Even of 38, the cult figure’s time has come to an end in my team. Cam Oliver has averaged a measly 19 minutes and 19 SuperCoach points over the last three weeks, and Goorj has not been scared to flick the magnets around. Not what the price tag requires for the casHUGHES. Watching live last week, Cam Oliver spent a lot of time behind the bench on the bike and at the end of the bench – disengaged and disinterested. If we don’t see much from the big man this week, I’d love to hear the question asked in the post-game presser.

CHLOE WILLIAMS

OUT: Will Magnay, Elijah Pepper

IN: Matt Hurt, Angus Glover

I wanted to hold Magnay, but needed cash to bring in Matt Hurt, who looks unstoppable at the moment. I’m hoping no DWJ doesn’t impact him too heavily, but I think it’s worth the risk. Glover comes in for Pepper purely to keep the cash generation going – this too is risky as Pepper could be called upon in Cotton’s absence … the emphasis on could, though, has me willing to take a gamble on Glover who has a BE of -4.

This could change if I see Matt’s trades … Tim is on my tail with a very similar team so I need to find a nice POD in the coming weeks to stay relevant.

TIM MICHELL (just trying to catch Chloe)

OUT: Alex Toohey, Cam Oliver, Will Magnay

IN: Matt Hurt, Xavier Cooks, Angus Glover or Max Darling

You still don’t have Xavier Cooks? You’re trading two guys who have a double? The answer to both questions is sadly yes. Not having Cooks is why I’m 350th overall instead of sitting pretty in the top 100 like Matt Hickey and Chloe Williams. Big X is a double double machine and having him will make me feel a lot better about my side. Matt Hurt has a run of doubles coming up and is playing massive minutes for a big man. Hopefully it stays that way under the new coach Josh King. I’m undecided on whether to go Glover or Darling as the cheapie to make these happen, but leaning towards Glover depending on how long Derrick Walton Jr is out. If you have Oliver or Toohey probably don’t trade them this week. We all know what happens when I trade someone I shouldn’t …

PATCH (village idiot)

IN: Matt Hurt, Angus Glover

OUT: Will Magnay, Kyle Adnam

Really unsure what I’m doing here this week, tossing between Keli Leaupepe to Max Darling and Tim Robertson to Matt Mooney or what I’ve got locked in for now. I wasn’t going to pick up Hurt until everyone in the Melbourne office told me how dumb I was for not picking him, Patch you absolute idiot, I can’t believe they let you actually run a team let alone put in your ‘expert trades’, you embarrassment to every single fantasy sport which has ever existed, gosh; so now I’m picking him. Angus Glover vs Max Darling was always going to come down to which position I traded out, and Adnan feels like a better option? Maybe? I think? Henshall might not be on the double but could be in for a scoring boost with Bryce Cotton MIA. I don’t love trading Magnay out – he might not appear to have the massive ceiling Hurt does but I did want to keep him for his DGWs coming up. Oh well, can’t win them all.
