The 31-year-old succumbed to an adductor injury in the third quarter of Dallas’ win over Houston last Sunday (AEDT).

Veteran NBA insider Marc Stein reported Davis would be sidelined for ‘an indefinite period’, with the severity of his injury ‘still being determined’.

Stein later added that discussions would take place on Tuesday (AEDT) to determine whether Davis’ injury ‘can be treated without surgery’.

ESPN insider Shams Charania later reported similar, writing on X: “Anthony Davis is expected to miss multiple weeks with a left adductor strain ... His absence could stretch to a month.”

Upon news of Davis’ injury reality, CBS NBA reporter Sam Quinn said: “Anthony Davis is a top-75 all-time player and he’s going to get remembered for all of the wrong reasons. The injuries. The trade. His title coming in the bubble.

“It sucks. It’s such a disservice to a really incredible player.”

The 10-time All-Star and one-time NBA champion was sent to the Mavericks as part of a jaw-dropping trade that saw superstar Luka Doncic dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers.

In his Dallas debut, Davis scored 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting and added 13 rebounds, five assists and three blocks in a dominant first half against Houston last Sunday (AEDT).

Davis, who had recently returned from an abdominal strain, initially said post-game: “(I) just came back and tried to get it loose and everything.

“Obviously, dealing with the ab strain still, so just tried to get it loose. It wouldn’t really loosen up and let go, but it’s nothing serious. I’m fine.”
