Australian basketball star Liz Cambage has likely played her final game for the Opals after not being included in the 24-player squad for next year’s home FIBA Women’s World Cup.

The squad will officially be released by Basketball Australia on Monday, but it is expected that Cambage will not be included, reported the Sydney Morning Herald.

The World Cup is set to take place in Sydney between September 22 and October 1 next year.

Cambage’s omission comes after the 30-year-old’s exit from the Opal camp prior to the Tokyo Olympics.

The four-time WNBA All-Star cited mental health issues, including panic attacks, for the reason for her withdrawal from the Australian squad.

She was also involved in a heated clash prior to the Olympics during a warm-up game with Nigeria as she got into a physical and verbal altercation.

Cambage was found guilty of one charge but avoided any suspensions or fines as the Opal were dumped out of Tokyo at the quarter-final stage by Team USA.

The Sydney Morning Herald added that it is unclear whether Cambage actually wanted to be considered for the World Cup and its warm-up matches, which start in February, having fallen out with several of her Australia teammates.

It is also unlikely that she will be involved for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
