Brisbane has acted quickly in its search for a replacement for injured superstar Casey Prather, landing an ex-NBA forward.
Code Sports understands the Bullets, who, on Wednesday, lost Prather and then axed fellow import Jaylen Adams on Friday, have agreed to terms with former Indiana, Chicago and Sacramento ‘Swiss Army knife’ Terry Taylor for the remainder of NBL26.
The 26-year-old will arrive in Brisbane with 98 NBA games across four seasons, along with last season’s G League championship with Stockton.
The nifty leftie has made his career as an undersized big man — he’s 196cm, just 2cm shorter than Prather — but plays bigger, making his way to the NBA the hard way after going undrafted in 2021 and landing a two-way contract with Indiana.
“I got that chip on my shoulder because everybody always questions my size,” Taylor told Fieldhouse Files in 2022.
“But they don’t understand I got the most heart in the building.
“Like I’m going to fight you every possession no matter what, then you got to come see me on the offensive end.
“I play bigger than what I am and I’m always going to go hard and always tell my teammates like ‘yo, come on, we got this’.”
Last season, Taylor played alongside axed former Perth Wildcats import Mason Jones on that Kings championship team.
Taylor was an elite G League performer, averaging 18 points and 9.5 rebounds across 73 contests, including a 46-point explosion in the 2022 Winter Showcase finale. He has moulded himself into an accurate three-point shooter, nailing over 39 per cent of his 164 treys last season.
It’s understood the signing is set to be made official by the club in the coming days but it’s unclear if Taylor will be in uniform in time for Thursday night’s home date with South East Melbourne.
It’s a welcome piece of good news for the backs-against-the-wall 5-9 Bullets, who are limping to the FIBA break having lost three of their last four, but did give top side Melbourne United all it could handle on Sunday in a comeback from 21 down that ultimately fell short, 99-93.
