Despite losing three key pieces to its championship puzzle in the off-season, Mackay has signed massive NBL talent in its repeat efforts for 2022.

Meteors finals MVP Jerron Jamerson has left the club, as has former captain Chris Cedar and NBL import Harry Froling, leaving Mackay with starting positions available.

But Meteors coach Joel Khalu has been busy in the off-season, securing three NBL-calibre players to finish his roster.

“Chris, Jerron and Harry were three massive pieces to the championship puzzle,” Khalu said.

“Manny (Emmanuel Malou) is returning with a new skill set from his NBL time and is really scary, and Viliami Foketi is set for a bigger role with us as well.

“We’ve signed Biwali Bayles and Jaylin Galloway from the Sydney Kings, as well as Kyrin Galloway from New Zealand Breakers.”

Bayles had a promising NBL rookie season, averaging 13.7 minutes per game, scoring 5.2 points, 1.4 assists and two rebounds in 2021-22.

Khalu said Bayles was raw talent, but his development through the NBL season was promising.

“He was playing some big minutes as a rookie, he’ll be really good for us as a starter,” he said.

Brothers Jaylin and Kyrin Galloway both are athletic players on the court but will fit into different roles for Mackay.

“He reminds me a lot of Chris (Cedar), his ability to get to the rim, he’s stocky, strong and athletic as well, so we’re excited for him to run a much more dynamic offence.”

“Jaylin will replace Jerron, who was really important for us last year,” Khalu said.

“He shoots the ball a bit better than Jerron did, and he’ll be a tough cover because of his height, length and athleticism.

“Kyrin is a lot more lean than what Harry was, so we’re going to have a really fast-paced, dynamic and athletic offence, which is really exciting for us.”
