AUSSIE Aron Baynes has ended speculation of a Europe move, re-signing with the San Antonio Spurs for his third season in the NBA.

The deal was confirmed in a news release on the team’s website and a tweet from the man himself on Saturday morning, Australian time.

Baynes joined the Spurs in January 2013, but after their championship win in June this year, the Queenslander was open to other offers as a restricted free agent.

He was linked to clubs in Asia and Europe, seeking more gametime and a better deal than the US$1.115 million (A$1.3 million) qualifying deal the Spurs had on the table until the October deadline.

Reports say that Baynes did not sign that offer and instead signed a one-year contract worth US$2.1 million (A$2.4 million), but San Antonio have not released the terms or details of the deal to confirm.

Baynes has played 53 games for the black-and-silver, averaging 3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 9.3 minutes.

An impressive individual performance at the FIBA World Cup saw Baynes guide the Australian team to the round of 16. Though the Boomers were eliminated in a disappointingly narrow loss to Turkey, Baynes showed consistent form for the Boomers, averaging 16.8 points, 7 rebounds in 27 minutes.

San Antonio’s squad is now locked in, with 14 of their 15-player squad playing a part in their 2013/14 NBA championship victory.
