Basketball legend Michael Jordan drank beer and golfed all day before dominating an NBA match

More proof there really is nothing better than a Michael Jordan story from the good old days, plus ‘Swanny’ turns down the Pies, Tom Boyd’s new club and which delisted AFL star is happy to ditch another chance?

There’s nothing better than a Michael Jordan story from the good old days.

Any snippet about the basketballer many believe is the greatest sportsman to have lived is seized on and adds more layers to his legend.

The latest yarn comes from an old golfing partner, former NHL star Jeremy Roenick, who recalled a day on the course when MJ was at his prime.

Roenick told the 670 Score podcast in the States that he got a call from Jordan to meet him for an early morning round of golf.

“We played a round, beat him for a couple thousand, and I’m getting ready to leave. Now, the Bulls are playing that night. They play Cleveland, that night. So I’m thinking he’s leaving, it’s 10:00, he’s like ‘No, let’s go play again',” Roenick said.

“So we fill up a bag full of ice and Coors Light and we walk again. We roll around another 18 and I take him for another couple.

“We’ve been drinking all afternoon. Now he’s going from Sunset Ridge to the stadium to play a game. And I’m like messing around, I’m like ‘I’m going to call my bookie, all the money you just lost to me I’m putting on Cleveland tonight.’

“He goes ‘I’ll tell you what. I’ll bet you that we win by 20 points and I have more than 40.’ I’m like ‘Done.’

“Son of a gun goes out, scores 52 and they win by 26 or something … after [36] holes of golf and having maybe 10 Bud Lights. The man, to me, is the best athlete that I’ve ever seen.”

The fact checkers found that there may have been some mayonnaise on the Roenick yarn but narrowed the game that fits the scenario best down to March 28th, 1992, where Jordan put up 44 points to help the Bulls defeat the Cavs by 24.

THE TWEET

Brownlow Medallist Dane Swan continues to dominate the social media world with his latest offering about a job opportunity at his old club a classic:

Collingwood tweeted the appointment of Hayden Skipworth as the head of its academy program, replacing the outgoing Tarkyn Lockyer.

Swanny seized on this and offered: “Pretty flat I Didn’t even get a chance to apply.”

The Pies replied: “Don't worry Swanny. We've got other ideas for you. Coffee?”.

Swanny then said: “As I treat my body like a temple I don’t put coffee in it so I’ll take a sparkling water and we are on.”

OLD DOG BOYD HEADS TO AMMOS

The annual AFL signings in the amateur ranks is in full swing.

Western Bulldogs premiership hero Tom Boyd is the latest to join the VAFA, signing with St Kevin's after also being courted by rival Old Trinity.

Boyd retired from the AFL in May after a battle with mental illness and returned to his former junior club Norwood.

He played six games in the EFL Premier Division club and kicked 15 goals, including a bag of six in the final home and away game against Doncaster.

St Kevin's will roll out a daunting forward line next season with Boyd to line up alongside former North Melbourne and Carlton gun Jarrad Waite.

And they’re also believed to be after former Blue Patrick Kerr whose family have close ties to the club – his brother Tom played in SKOB’s 2017 and 2018 Premier A flags. VFL club Port Melbourne are also interested in the former Carlton key forward.

Meanwhile, St Kilda midfielder David Armitage turned his back on a number of lucrative offers in the bush to sign with Collegians, who also acquired ex-Hawk David Mirra.
