Alex Volkanovski says he already possesses the winning blueprint for a superfight with UFC megastar Conor McGregor.
Same deal, outspoken American Henry Cejudo -- whose titles at both flyweight and bantamweight now have him spruiking a move up to claim even more gold against Australia’s new featherweight king.
“And I think Cejudo does want that fight,” Volkanovski tells The Daily Telegraph.
“But without sounding too cocky, I’d squash him.
“Same with McGregor, I’d be too much for him too.
“For a start, I’m too smart for the Conor mind games.
“I won’t say too much but Conor McGregor, he likes to set a lot of traps. But they’re things I would never get caught up in.
“The guy isn’t exactly known for his cardio either, so I’d crumble him. Make it look easy.
“The first rounds, yeah, they might be competitive.
“And I’ve already pictured it being like that.
“I’ll let him dance about, showboat, do his thing. But second round you’ll see his face quickly change.
“And I’ve pictured that too.”
While he may be pencilled in to fight Max Holloway at UFC 251 in Perth this June, 31-year-old Volkanovski is still thinking, acting, planning as a UFC champion should.
In Las Vegas this week to support close mate and middleweight champ Israel Adesanya, who headlines UFC 248, the Wollongong native has also planned a host of promotional events and business meetings, including a sit down with UFC president Dana White.
Having broken his right hand while taking the UFC featherweight title from Holloway at UFC 245, Volkanovski remains unsure about his availability for the Australian card on June 6.
“But I want to headline that event,” he says.
“And I know Dana White wants me on there, wants me to rematch Holloway, but right now there is nothing on paper, we haven’t even had a sit down yet.
“So that might be something we do this weekend.
“I’m really just waiting for the medical updates to come through.
“I’ve started to grapple again, and it feels good.
“Obviously I have to be smart, I can’t be punching crazy or having people land on it just yet.
“But I want that title defence in Australia.”
Better, Volkanovski reveals he is already planning for every possible scenario the UFC might throw his way.
“I’ve pictured myself fighting a whole bunch of people,” he reveals. “Not only the Max Holloway, but also Conor, Cejudo, Korean Zombie, even Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“And all of that excites me.
“To be in the position I am it’s a blessing.
“But who knows?
“While Dana has been talking up the Max rematch, I’ve heard nothing from him (Holloway) or his team.
“Maybe they haven’t had the conversations yet because they’re still waiting to see where I’m at.
“I think we’ll work a lot of that out this weekend.”
