Coach Mark Moxon has high hopes of success from his “skilful and talented’’ Australian A Schools rugby side heading to Japan for a series of matches this month and said the tour is a big opportunity for players on numerous levels.

The team was selected at the conclusion of the Australian Schools rugby championships at Knox Grammar in July with just one major change made since.

Harrison Valevatu from Eagle Vale High School in NSW has been bought in to replace ACT player Shane Wilcox who is unable to tour.

Valevatu, who played for the NSW Barbarians at the selection tournament, has been identified as one of the players to watch on the tour.

“I want them to see it as an opportunity to further their rugby careers,’’ Moxon said.

“Have the experience and honour of representing their country, the camaraderie and tour experience, that’s the type of thing that keeps people in the game.

“We want them to experience what rugby has to offer.

“But we also want them to stay in the game in whatever the capacity, experience what the game has to offer, them put back in.

“I want them to see it as a great experience. It’s a whole fraternity and support structure.’’

Moxon said his team is strong across the board with a talented bench backing up the starters.

“It’s a good team, quite skilful and talented and we have flash outside where the boys want to play football and grind in the middle,’’ he said.

“We have guys who can play different positions and we don’t loose anything from the bench.

“We have depth off the bench, good balance on the field and they know what they want to do.’’

Moxon, from Townsville, has identified a number of players from NSW, Queensland and the ACT schools rugby he expects will make a mark in Japan.
