Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios wasn’t a happy man on Monday morning as he took to social media to vent his frustration.

The Canberra native, who has been battling injury concerns all year long, unleashed a scathing spray on Twitter.

A diehard basketball fan, Kyrgios was watching his Boston Celtics take on the Philadelphia 76ers in their second round showdown in the NBA Playoffs.

The Celtics entered the contest holding a 2-1 lead in the series, but fell apart in the dying seconds as the Sixers levelled it up on their home court.

After Marcus Smart missed a shot at the end of regulation the game went into overtime. With the Celtics holding a two-point lead and time running down, MVP Joel Embiid found James Harden all alone in the corner with a perfect pass. Harden buried the three to put the Sixers up by one point with under 20 seconds to play.

The Celtics opted to not call a timeout as star forward Jayson Tatum drove into the lane before kicking out to Smart for a potential game-winner.

Unfortunately Smart’s shot came after the buzzer, sending the Philadelphia crowd wild and bringing the series back to level-pegging.

The decision to not use their final timeout and the poor final possession left Celtics fans seeing red, none more so than Kyrgios.

Just like he is on the tennis court, the mercurial Aussie wasn’t afraid to let his emotions come pouring out as he unleashed in a series of tweets.

“Wtf man honestly,” he wrote.

“Like wtf. Can’t even get a shot, it’s embarrassing.

“The f*** are you guys doing just wasting valuable time at the top

“Great coaching

“Call a f***ing timeout

“Why would you double team Embiid when you are up by 2 and leave Harden in the corner for an open 3? Can’t rebound for the last 3 minutes and then gifting the game AGAIN.

“Why are you coming off someone who has 40 … please my brain hurts

“Why are you not calling a timeout to come together and at least have a set play for the final shot … please my brain hurts.”

The Eastern Conference battle will return to Boston on Wednesday with the Celtics looking to bounce back in front of their home crowd.

Kyrgios will no doubt be tuning in and hoping for a better outcome as he continues his path back from injury.

The 28-year-old hasn’t played a professional match in 2023 having been sidelined with a knee injury that saw him pull out of the Australian Open in the days leading up to the opening Grand Slam.

Fans and tennis organisers were hopeful of a return to action for the French Open, however it appears that may be a stretch.

After a breakout year on tour in 2022, hopes remain high the Aussie can get his knee right and show once again why he’s one of the biggest drawcards on the planet.
