AUSSIE Jonah Bolden will join countryman Ben Simmons and No.1 pick Markelle Fultz in Philadelphia after becoming the first Down Under pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Big Baller Lonzo Ball - complete with his outlandish father LaVar - landed in LA as the draft threw up few surprises.

The Sixers now have a clear Aussie flavour, with the well-travelled son of former South East Melbourne Magic NBL star Bruce Bolden selected in the second round at pick 36, joining Simmons and former North Melbourne Giants’ coach Brett Brown in the City of Brotherly Love.

Bolden has taken an unconventional path to the NBA, leaving UCLA to link up with Serbian team FMP Belgrade.

He caught the eye of recruiters with a stand out season that netted him the Rookie of the Year Award in the Adriatic Basketball Association.

Bolden’s a 6’10’’ power forward with serious handles and the ability to create off the dribble, finish at the rim and a vastly improved jumpshot that saw him drain 40 per cent of his attempts from down town last season — every thing you need to make it in the NBA.

The biggest trade bombshell came when the Chicago Bulls agreed to send star Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves, along with pick No.16 for dual NBA Slam Dunk champion Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and pick No.7.

Other Aussie hopefuls, Isaac Humphries and Mangok Mathiang went undrafted, but Adelaide 36ers product Terrance Ferguson will join MVP favourite Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City after the Thunder made him the 21st pick in the draft.

The Sixers got their man in star Washington point guard Fultz after earlier this week pulling off a blockbuster trade with the Boston Celtics to secure the No.1 pick.

They sent the No. 3 pick and a future first-rounder to the Celtics in exchange.

Fultz combines size, scoring and distribution.

“It was unbelievable, truly a blessing, something I’ve dreamt about,” Fultz said.

The lining of his suit paid tribute to his mother, family and his basketball career to date.

“I’ve got pretty much all my memories inside,” he said.

“It’s who I am today.”

New Los Angeles Lakers GM Magic Johnson was enamoured with talented UCLA point guard Ball — even if he comes with the baggage of an erratic, big-noting father LaVar — and they made him the second pick, as expected.

“I knew this was happening before it was happening,” LaVar said after his son was drafted.

“I already knew it was coming to him.

“Lonzo Ball is going to take the Lakers to the playoffs his first year. Come see me when he does.”

The Celtics nabbed gun Duke swingman Jayson Tatum with the third pick, Phoenix grabbed Kansas City Jayhawk Josh Jackson and speed demon De’Aaron Fox landed in Sacramento to round out an all-freshman top five — the first time that has happened in NBA Draft history.

Not an Aussie, but Ferguson will be familiar to those who followed the NBL, particularly for his high-flying exploits.

Ferguson decided to forgo the college experience, spending a gap year with the Sixers before declaring for the draft.

Will his selection by the Thunder encourage more Americans to skip college after they finish high school?

Florida State’s Jonathan Isaac landed in Orlando at pick No.6.

Lauri Markkanen became the first Finnish player to be drafted in the first round, Minnesota taking the big sharpshooter on behalf of the Bulls at No.7, after the trade that brought Butler to the Timberwolves.

Of course, all eyes are on the New York Knicks as they explore trade options for the uber-talented Kristaps Porzingis.

While that plays out, the Knicks nabbed France’s Frank Ntilikina at pick 8 and, instead of the boos that Porzingis copped two seasons ago, there was rapturous applause for the young athlete who might just fit Phil Jackson’s triangle offence — even if it hasn’t worked for seven or eight years.

ACC Freshman of the Year Dennis Smith Jr became the first top-10 draft pick of the Mark Cuban era when Dallas made him the ninth pick in the draft.

Sacramento reportedly traded pick No.10 to Portland for picks 15 and 20 and they selected Zach Collins from Gonzaga University on behalf of the Blazers.

Denver Nuggets select Donovan Mitchell at pick 13, but reportedly traded him to the Utah Jazz for Trey Lyles and pick 24.

Aussies Matthew Dellavedova and Thon Maker welcome Michigan’s DJ Wilson to the Milwaukee Bucks at pick 17. The power forward is a raw prospect but fits the Bucks’ run and gun game with superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and a (hopefully) healthy Jabari Parker.
