The Golden State Warriors are one victory away from lifting the Larry O‘Brien Championship Trophy after toppling the Boston Celtics in Game 5 of the NBA Finals series on Tuesday AEST.
Despite a sloppy third quarter, which featured 14 consecutive missed three-pointers, the Warriors dominated the final term to claim a comprehensive 104-94 victory at the Chase Centre.

And they managed it despite an underwhelming performance from Steph Curry, who became the second player in NBA Finals history to attempt nine or more three-pointers in a game and miss them all.
It was the first time Curry had not scored a three-pointer in an NBA game since November 2018, equating to 233 consecutive games, and also the first time in 133 playoff games he did not make a shot from beyond the arc.
The Warriors raced off the blocks, taking an early 32-18 lead, but Boston went on a 6-0 run in the second quarter to close the margin to just eight points.
The Celtics started the contest with 12 missed shots from beyond the arc, the most bungled threes to start an NBA Finals game over the last 25 years.
Golden State’s Andrew Wiggins took charge of the first half with 16 points and seven rebounds, finishing the game with a team-high 26 points and 13 rebounds.
But momentum quickly shifted back in Boston’s favour after the halftime break, with the Celtics going on a 10-0 run in less than two minutes to get within two points of the Warriors.
After hardly being able to sink a three-pointer in the first term, Boston nailed eight in a row to rattle Steve Kerr’s men and take the lead.
But with 0.1 seconds remaining on the clock in the third quarter, Golden State’s Jordan Poole nailed a huge three-pointer to give the Warriors a one-point advantage at the final break.

Steph Curry shot 7-22 and 0-9 from three-point range and the Warriors still buried the Celtics by 10. This is so embarrassing for Boston.

Yikes, Boston.
The Warriors started the final quarter with a 10-0 run to send the San Francisco crowd into a frenzy.
“The frustrating thing for the Celtics is that you handle Steph Curry, you make him look human at times … and yet you’re down 10 with five minutes left in the ball game,” ESPN commentator Mark Jackson said.
And the Celtics never recovered, meaning they need to win the next two games to secure their first NBA championship since 2008.
Game 6 will get underway at Boston’s TD Garden on Friday AEST, with tip off scheduled for 11am AEST.
