A CRITICISM of the bloodletting at radio station SEN has been the absence of female on-air talent. New boss Craig Hutchison has decided to act.

THERE have been a lot of rumblings about the SEN shake-up, with one criticism levelled at the new management focusing on the absence of female talent.

Behind-the-scenes station boss Craig Hutchison has been addressing that situation and yesterday named AFLW star Daisy Pearce as the latest station signing.

CHANGES: SEN AXES GM, COMMENTATOR

The Melbourne champion was a revelation as a boundary rider on Channel Seven last year and Pearce, 29, will play a number of roles across SEN, including as an expert commentator on match days.

She will also appear on the breakfast show with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson as well as having a regular spot with Gerard Whateley.

Pearce will also be working on her own signature women’s sports show.

While one big name arrived yesterday, another left, with general manager Cathy Thomas shown the door.

Thomas joined SEN in 2016 after 13 years at Austereo and was responsible for the signing of garry Lyon to a revamped breakfast show.

Bringing Lyon, Watson and Channel Seven’s Hamish McLachlan together for the crucial early morning slot was a bold move — and a costly one at over $1 million.

The changes at the station follow Pacific Star Network’s merger with Hutchison’s company, CrocMedia.

PAINFUL WIN FOR MUM

TENNYS Sandgren’s extraordinary run to the quarter-finals has come at a cost on the home front.

The giant-killing efforts of the American have floored his mother, Lia, who suffered an injury while watching his heroics on TV.

Mrs Sandgren suffered a broken rib and mild concussion after falling while cheering on her son with neighbours back in Tennessee.

“I’ve got like a neighbourhood, a core neighbourhood group with my mom and they watch a lot of my bigger matches,” Sandgren said.

“They’ll go in the basement, put the match on the projector screen on the bottom. There is a pool table down there and they were jumping up and down, celebrating, then she fell onto the pool table and cracked a rib.”

Mrs Sandgren went to hospital to get checked out and has since traded the basement for her bed to watch her son’s march into the quarter-finals.
