THEY’RE the names we already know.

But will any clubs be prepared to take another chance on them? With clubs having whittled down their senior lists in preparation for next month’s national draft, there has been the inevitable list culling.

And that has meant some careers have come to a sudden stop.

DEPARTURE LOUNGE: RETIREMENTS AND DELISTINGS

Each year the spits out several talented youngsters who, for one reason or another, just haven’t been able to cut it at their club. In some cases, he’s been to more than one AFL club.

The delisted free agency window opens this week, so from November 1 all teams will be able to sign players who have been delisted at rival clubs.

Some players may have been overlooked during the trade period, with rivals aware they could nab them from the start of November without having to trade for what could turn out a bargain.

Below SuperFooty has taken a look at some of the prospects heading into the delisted free agency window.

Will any of these discards make it big at another club? Time will tell.

BEN NEWTON

Age: 22

Matches: 4

Taken with pick 35 in the 2010 national draft, Newton did break into the powerful Power side this year but played just four matches. He has rejected a contract from Port and will instead head to the national draft, so there must be interest elsewhere as he searches for more game time.

Questions remain on whether the former no.12 pick will find a new home. An elite runner but his ball use has really let him down since he joined the Blues. Did meet with the two WA clubs during trade period.

JARED PETRENKO

Former club: Adelaide

Age: 24

Matches: 76

Petrenko said he went into meet new coach Phil Walsh expecting a ‘meet and greet’ and instead copped a one-two to the guts, such was the shock of his delisting. Another who gives it his all but just lacks a bit of polish. Wants to go on but will return to the SANFL if not selected.

ASH SMITH

Age: 24

Matches: 45

Hasn’t been able to cement his place in the West Coast backline since being selected with pick 36 back in 2008. Has pace and can use it well but has struggled for consistency. Has mates at the Western Bulldogs and could fit their age bracket.

ANDREW RAINES

Former clubs: Richmond, Brisbane Lions

Age: 28

Matches: 123

Would be ruled out by many clubs but the Lions’ rivals down the road — Gold Coast — has expressed interest. When fit and in form, Raines has shown he’s among the game’s best taggers. Still only 28 so has a couple of years left.

SHAUN McKERNAN

Former club: Adelaide

Age: 24

Matches: 34

Hasn’t been able to put it all together at West Lakes. Did look better at times early this year but was always behind the likes of Walker, Podsiadly, Jenkins and even Lewis Johnston — another looking for a second chance. Big blokes take longer, so maybe he’s due to fire?
