Dogs confirm stars new training program

Western Bulldogs hopeful Dom Brew has continued to ramp up his push for a list spot as the Dogs trained without Jamarra Ugle-Hagan on Wednesday.

Ugle-Hagan has been in and out of training during pre-season and the Dogs have said he is on a “flexible” program, with the forward not in the club on Wednesday.

The Dogs held a light craft session, with several players stepping out of drills at different points.

Brew remains the sole player training on for a list spot this pre-season at Whitten Oval and took part in the entire session after a quad injury set him back before Christmas.

With only one list spot to fill, the Bulldogs are able to leave a blank space and use it in the mid-season draft, or sign a player such as Werribee VFL star Brew.

St Kilda officially signed ruck Harry Boyd on Tuesday after he was the only player auditioning for a spot with the Saints through pre-season.

Skipper Marcus Bontempelli has carried through a near-faultless pre-season so far and moved with usual grace on Wednesday through the session.

Midfielder Adam Treloar went through a running session away from the main group as part of his continuous management of his body, with recruit Matt Kennedy joining him.

Cody Weightman only stepped on the track for a handful of minutes but given the lightness of the session, several players didn’t take part in drills.

Tall forwards Aaron Naughton and Sam Darcy both took part in the entire session after being managed at times before Christmas, with the pair set to control the forwardline early in the season if Ugle-Hagan is unavailable in the early rounds.

Midfielder Ed Richards has impressed on the track through summer so far and will remain as an onballer in 2025, while forgotten Norm Smith medallist Jason Johannisen has enjoyed a strong pre-season.

Veteran Tom Liberatore is also tracking well as he enters his 15th season.

Runner Laitham Vandermeer rocked a new peroxide blonde look, a new addition to start 2025.

Vandermeer played in all 24 of the Bulldogs’ games last year so should have no issue being noticed by the coaching staff.
