MELBOURNE is braced for an explosion of glamour as football's finest and their dates prepare to step out for the AFL's big Brownlow night.

MELBOURNE is braced for an explosion of glamour as football's finest and their dates prepare to step out for the AFL's big Brownlow night.

Big-name designer gowns, diamonds and elegance are expected to be big hits on the new blue carpet.

While all eyes will be on high-profile names such as Rebecca Twigley and Lauren Phillips new style-savvy partners are also expected to shine.

West Coast Eagles ruckman Dean Cox's girlfriend Kerry Lavell, Alan Didak's partner Jacinta Jellett and Dane Swan's partner Taylor Wilson, who will wear a $500,000 diamond-studded gown, will make an impression.

Twigley and Lavell chose Perth designers - Twigley chose Ruth Tarvydas; Lavell went for Ae'lkemi.

Lavell, a former international ballroom dancer who is about to open a beauty salon, said Cox noticed the gown on the net.

"I wanted something more elegant and classy, a bit more classic. I had in mind long, and I do like strapless," she said.

Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandiland's fiancee, Jenny Hofsink, will wear a gown by another Perth designer, Celestial Tenille.
