The Score: How close did Carlton’s new coach David Teague come to joining Collingwood?

David Teague has been rewarded for transforming Carlton in nine games by being named the club’s new senior coach. But it wasn’t long ago he was offered a job that would have involved him helping the Blues’ greatest rival.

And would Richmond have won the 2018 flag if Nick Riewoldt had delayed his retirement for one year?

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has revealed he interviewed Teague for an assistant role when he was looking to come back to Victoria after three years in Adelaide.

“We interviewed David to come across here leading into the 2018 season and he chose the Carlton opportunity in front of here,” Buckley said.

“He probably would have (been) looking at us across the fence and probably would have thought I picked the wrong horse.

“But I think he has probably had the last laugh, I think he has picked the right one.”

Riewoldt has revealed a drunken voicemail message was sent to Richmond’s head recruiter by Alex Rance and himself at his cousin’s wedding in November 2017.

During the long message Rance made a passionate pitch for the former St Kilda captain to come out of retirement.

“I thought fleetingly about potentially a year somewhere else,” Riewoldt told SEN. “At 3am, Alex Rance and I called up Richmond’s head of recruiting and left a voicemail.

“I think it was a six-minute voicemail which he might still have, talking about how I should come across to Tigerland for just one year and play in the forward line with Jack (Riewoldt).

“I’d played on Rancey about a month before the end of the season and played pretty well on him. I was pleading my case and Rancey was endorsing it saying: ‘He did this when he played, and he did that. The proof and the body of work’s there — let’s get it done’.”

Riewoldt, who admitted he forgot about the phonecall the next day, never heard back with the Tigers already clearly well down the track in attracting Tom Lynch from the Gold Coast who arrived at Punt Rd the following year.

Of course Mike Tyson owns a 40-acre cannabis farm in California …

That just makes total sense and it will come as no surprise that he samples a lot of his own product.

The former heavyweight champion has revealed on a podcast that alongwith his business partner they would “smoke ten tons of weed on the ranch a month”.

Tyson, 52, now has plans for a marijuana-themed resort which he is calling the “Lollapalooza of cannabis”.

SURPRISE: HOW BLUES CAUGHT TEAGUE OFF GUARD

The AFL is under attack from a computer virus.

Several clubs have reported an outbreak of a spam email that has infiltrated the contact list of some of football’s heavy hitters.

Among those targeted included Western Bulldogs football director Chris Grant while Port Adelaide’s chief executive Keith Thomas is the latest victim.

The virus sends out a message saying, for example, Thomas has left a voicemail and you had to “click here” to listen to it.

Clubs are now on high alert with staff warned to delete the email immediately.
