Renowned AFL prankster reveals the best gags he has witnessed and heard

It was supposed to be a harmless prank, but Josh Caddy and his former Geelong teammate were left red-faced when their attempted joke resulted in a call to 000.

Andrew McGrath would have had a similar reaction after being pranked with a pigeon.

To celebrate April Fools Day we approached a renowned AFL prankster on the promise of anonymity for a list of the best pranks he'd seen, heard or taken part in over the journey.

1. The Mystery Ghosts - This one lasted for weeks. A couple of players dressed up as ghosts and went around doing things to teammates cars. They would take a photo each time and post it in the changerooms. It gripped the whole club for a while as people tried to figure out their identity.

2. Car For Sale - This involved putting an ad in The Trading Post in the car sales section with the caption: "Going overseas, Must sell". There would be a mobile number of a player attached so when he got off the training track there would be 100 voicemail messages on his phone.

3. Moving Cars - An oldie but a goodie which still gets a good laugh today. Sometimes we stepped it up and rather than just moving around the carpark, vehicles were relocated a couple of kilometres away from the ground.

4. Prank Calls to Coaches - This was often timed around match committee and was sourced outside to a player's mate who did a ripping impersonation of Neville Bartos, the legendary character from the Chopper movie. Coaches had no idea who it was.

5. Masked Door/Window Knocking - Another favourite with players regularly donning masks to scare teammates late at night but this has been put on the back burner in recent times after the Geelong incident. If you recall Josh Caddy and Billie Smedts were pulled over by police after deciding to do a daytime raid on teammate Jackson Thurlow's house wearing balaclavas. The only problem was he wasn't home and a neighbour rang the police.

6. Live Animals - Always a risk involving animals but for the surprise element it certainly has great impact as Essendon young gun Andrew McGrath found out recently when he opened his locker to find a pigeon inside.

7. Lockers - There are many shenanigans which involves a player's locker. One all-time favourite is putting a cup of Powerade at the top of the locker so when the door opens it spills everywhere, normally all over the player's bag. Also there was an incident involving expanding foam being placed inside a locker which sets rock hard and provides maximum annoyance for the victim.
