RISING Geelong midfielder Brandan Parfitt will not be part of the Jeremy Cameron deal despite the GWS Giants flagging they would ask to put him in a trade.
The Giants had informed Parfitt’s management that the Cat was one player they would request as part of what looms as a blockbuster trade but the youngster will not be moving.
He has recently inked a two-year extension coming off his best season at Geelong, which culminated in a finals series in which he was among the club’s best performers.
Parfitt’s manager, Tim Lawrence of TLA, confirmed to the Geelong Advertiser that there was never any consideration of a move.
“It’s not something we are entertaining and he will be staying at Geelong,” Lawrence said.
The Cats have held high hopes for Parfitt since he was drafted in 2016 and a move into the midfield full-time in 2020 showed his talent.
The 22-year-old ranked first at the club for pressure acts and tackles and played through pain in the grand final after suffering a broken thumb.
With fellow young midfielder Sam Simpson closing in on a new contract and Esava Ratugolea keen to earn a spot in the side next year, the options for the Giants are dwindling.
GWS list manager Jason McCartney said his club expected to be compensated well in any potential Cameron trade and the club has been clear in its want for both draft picks and players.
“Geelong has some assets in regards to players and also some nice selections that we’d be interested in looking at a combination of what we can do in order to facilitate that move for Jeremy,” McCartney told ABC Radio.
“We’re keen to get compensated well, there’s no doubt about that.”
Talks will resume on Monday as the clock ticks towards the end of the trade period on Thursday.

A quiet achiever, Parfitt thrived in Geelong’s Queensland hub.
As he closed in on a contract extension, he said last month that there was no other club for him.
“Obviously I love the Cats and couldn’t really see myself going anywhere anytime soon,” Parfitt said.
“We’ve got some great leaders and I’ve got some good friends now. It was hard to think about doing anything else, really.”
