The Adelaide Crows are satisfied with the 2014 fixture describing it as 'fair'

CROWS chief executive Steven Trigg describes Adelaide's draw for the 2013 AFL premiership season as "fair and balanced".

CROWS chief executive Steven Trigg describes Adelaide's draw for the 2013 AFL premiership season as "fair and balanced".

But there are two questions that linger for the Adelaide Football Club:

WHY the Crows again are away from home against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Sunday - on the Anzac Day long weekend that begins with the public holiday on the Friday.

WHY the second Showdown at Adelaide Oval - to be hosted by the Crows - was not placed in the Friday Night Football premier timeslot. The Crows have just one home Friday night game at the new Oval: against AFL premier Hawthorn.

"It's fair and balanced," said Trigg today. "There is a good balance of timeslots, days and match-ups.

"We have a good result at home by playing Collingwood on Thursday night, Hawthorn on Friday night and a couple of good Saturday night games, particularly against Richmond.

"To have our first home game at Adelaide Oval against Sydney (and former Crows forward Kurt Tippett) is a positive. We won't to win every game, but this one will have something extra for us."

Tippett walked out on Adelaide last year - for Sydney - leaving heavy consequences on the Crows as his 2009 contract was investigated by the AFL and found to be in breach of salary cap and draft rules.

Adelaide opens the premiership season with a Thursday night game on March 20 at Kardinia Park against Geelong. It will be one of six games in Victoria with five in Melbourne.

"That is a good result," said Trigg.

Adelaide repeatedly asks for such exposure in the Melbourne market. But the Crows did not want to be in Melbourne on the Anzac weekend when Adelaide had made big plans for an Anzac testimonial game at the new Oval.

"It is now just one home game in six years during the Anzac round - and being away does not make you feel part of the event as much as when you host an Anzac tribute game," said Trigg. "I am not sure we have had a response from the AFL to explain exactly why that is. It remains a mystery for us."

Adelaide has just one Friday night game at the Oval - far less than Crows fans expected.

"The fans would have had a greater expectation for Friday night games the Oval," said Trigg. "But the AFL is making it clear that to get Friday night football you have to perform - as you see with (grand finalist) Fremantle having three Friday night games in the first six weeks of the season. That Fremantle example hits you in the face straightaway."
