IT HAS been hailed as the breakout performance of his career, but Tom Boyd says he would have copped doughnuts on his stats sheet for the chance to win a premiership.
Amid ongoing celebrations, the Western Bulldogs’ big money recruit said he had not had the chance to reflect on a standout performance that many are describing as his coming of age as an AFL footballer.
Boyd, who finished with three goals and eight marks in the flag win against the Swans, said he had just been happy to play his role within the team.

“I haven’t really had a chance to reflect too much on my personal performance, obviously it has been an unbelievable experience,’’ Boyd said.
“Week-to-week we go out and play our roles ... we’re an extremely even 22 and it was again yesterday, it was great to be a part of it.
“I’m really glad that I was able to play my role and have some sort of influence.
“At the end of the day if someone had told me before the game that I would have no touches and we win a flag it would probably be worth it.’’
Boyd has faced his share of criticism for what he has been able to deliver on his big contract after his move from the Giants two years ago.
Asked if he felt a sense of vindication after his Grand Final performance, Boyd said he had never let talk about his contract impact on him at the club.
“To be honest, I don’t really read too much into it,’’ Boyd said.
“I try and play my role week to week and (coach) Luke (Beveridge) is really clear about what is expected of me, as he is with all players, and I am treated no differently.
“To be a premiership player at the age of 21, it’s just unreal.
“To be honest, from day one walking in the door, the club has been extremely welcoming, the players have been nothing but supportive.’’
Boyd said he always had faith in the ability of the Bulldogs’ list since arriving at the club.
“A few people have asked me that and to be honest, I’ve always had great faith in the list and knew a lot of the guys who were playing here before I arrived,’’ Boyd said.
“Jas McCartney and the list management crew have done a great job and we’ve obviously got some significant depth and that’s evident with some of the guys who missed out who are terrific players, it took the full 43 this year.’’
