INXS singalong gone wrong the cause of West Coast’s lift drama before win over St Kilda
West Coast forward Liam Ryan was caught up in two bizarre incidents either side of the club’s win against St Kilda, including a lift drama which has him stranded with four other teammates.

Oscar Allen has revealed that a singalong gone wrong was behind a handful of Eagles being trapped in a lift.
Allen, 20, was one of five West Coast players that got stuck in a lift at the team’s hotel in the lead-up to Saturday night’s 18-point win over St Kilda, and said his own rhythm was largely to blame.

“A couple of us boys went out for brekky, and on the way back we got in the lift and we were actually miming an INXS song,” the youngster told the Herald Sun.
“And whoever got it wrong … there was a big fuss about it. I actually got the rhythm wrong and everyone started jumping in the lift, and it kind of just stopped in the middle of the levels.
“We tried everything — pressing all the buttons and after about 20 minutes, they called us back and said they’d be another 45 off.”

Luckily, Allen said, one of the crew — which included star midfielder Andrew Gaff and premiership trio Jack Darling, Elliot Yeo and Liam Ryan — had brought a deck of cards to breakfast which helped pass the time.
“It was a bit concerning for a little bit, but we were all glad to get out of there,” he said.
“It was such a whirlwind then once we got stuck we were all stressing. There was quite a bit of testosterone in a small area and everyone was pretty hot and getting pretty agitated.
“Elliot Yeo was pressing all the buttons trying to make it work and stressing everyone out. We were glad to get out of there for sure.”
He said the lift went to the top of the Pullman Hotel and then down to the basement before the doors opened.
Not that any of them were going to take any risks.
“It finally opened up and a couple of us got out and walked up the stairs back just in case, because it was getting to around 1.30pm,” Allen smiled.
Gaff said the Eagles players were able to talk to their teammates while they waited to be rescued and were “offered a slice of cheese” by small forward Jamie Cripps.
“We had just got back from coffee, been playing a bit of cards, having coffee,” Gaff said.
“We needed to go from ground level to level one. Just one flight. It stopped obviously in the middle.”
Rather than concern about missing the clash against the Saints, Gaff said he was more worried about being stranded without a bathroom.
“We’d been obviously drinking a lot of water in the last 24 hours and we’d (had) a bit of coffee at the cafe as well,” he said on Channel 7.
“I reckon if it’d been another 10-15 minutes a few of us might have had to have gone on the carpet.”

Ryan was involved in another incident post-match when footage showed him heading to the West Coast team bus while the team meeting was taking place.
“We had a meeting at 10 to 11pm. It seemed like everyone knew,” Gaff said.
“We were counting, obviously there were 21 boys in the room. One missing.
“(Ryan) was on the bus. He comes in and goes, ‘I just couldn’t wait to get out of here.
“That’s why we love him. He plays carefree footy and he’s relaxed.”
The Eagles travelled back to Perth overnight after claiming another scalp on Melbourne soil, which has been a happy hunting ground for the reigning premiers since 2017.
“It’s been something we’ve been pretty proud of,” Allen said.
The late-night flight might have meant a wake-up call for Allen’s mum.
“It’ll be perfect, I’ll be able to wake my mum up for Mother’s Day at about 2.30am,” he laughed.
