Sydney’s inaugural No.1 draft pick Montana Ham has been sidelined for the start of season eight of AFLW with a foot injury.

Last weekend, the 19-year-old picked up a stress reaction in her left foot during the Swans’ match simulation against the Suns.

Scans confirmed the seriousness of the injury, and the midfielder will miss at least the first fortnight of the season.

“Montana suffered the injury in the first half of our match simulation against the Gold Coast Suns,” Kate Mahony, Sydney’s AFLW general manager said.

“She has commenced her rehabilitation program and we are confident Montana will do everything possible to return to play as soon as possible.”

Ham played seven matches for the Swans last season in their first year in the competition. She missed two games with a knee injury suffered in Sydney’s season opener against St Kilda.

The Swans play their final practice match on Saturday against Carlton at the SCG.
