Some lucky St Kilda fans will be able to cheer their team during the Round 2 clash against the Western Bulldogs after the club came up with an ingenious plan.

St Kilda has found a creative way to give members a game-day experience by hiring a drive-in cinema to screen the club’s Round 2 clash against the Western Bulldogs.

Members were emailed a link on Saturday morning to book a free spot for their car at the Dromana Drive-In after the club received approval from Foxtel to screen the game.

The cinema can hold 400 cars and the Saints are also working on having a former star attend the event.

The club’s Round 2 game against the Bulldogs kicks off at 6.05pm next Sunday.

The news came as the Saints completed match simulation at Moorabbin, with some of their new recruits shining brightly.

Dan Hannebery was among the best in the hitout, moving well and kicking two goals from the midfield.

Recruits Zak Jones and Brad Hill were also both lively through the middle of the ground and found plenty of the ball, while young forward Max King had some good moments and finished with three goals opposed to Dougal Howard.

Rowan Marshall and Paddy Ryder battled it out in the ruck as well as spending time forward, while Dylan Roberton was solid in defence.

Jade Gresham, who suffered a minor PCL injury in Round 1 in March, played with heavy strapping still on his right knee but did not show any signs of lingering issues.

Defender Jake Carslile was a late withdrawal from the match after waking up with a cold.

Forward Tim Membrey (head knock) and midfielder Jack Steele (wrist) did not take part in the match simulation but trained separately before the hitout.

Both Membrey and Steele had trained strongly on Thursday and remain in the frame for Round 2 selection.

Defender Darragh Joyce (hamstring) is the only concern on the Saints’ injury list and has been ruled out of Round 2 selection.

St Kilda high performance boss Matt Hornsby said this week that he had been pleased with how the group had returned from isolation and many players had benefited from the time off.

“Like anyone who went into that phase with some little niggles, there’s a challenge when a lot of the work they have to do is on their own,” Hornsby said.

“But it’s been really pleasing that they’ve come back and been able to just join in everything.

“They’re ready to play Round 2.”
