Paddy McCartin has detailed the depths of his concussion struggles, describing himself as “a shell of a person”,
The injury-cursed St Kilda forward won’t play again this season after he was placed on the inactive list, which means the Saints can take a player in Monday’s mid-season draft.
The Saints tweeted on Sunday morning: “Following consultation with doctors and specialists, Paddy McCartin has been placed on the long-term injury list.”

McCartin has played just 35 games since being selected with the No.1 pick in the 2014 draft as he battles repeated concussions.
Appearing on Triple M and Channel 7 on Sunday, McCartin revealed he suffers intense headaches from bright lights in public places.
“It’s been really difficult and I’ve sort of lost my identity as a footballer a little bit, but also as a person,” McCartin said.
“Just little things that I probably took for granted before that I can’t do, whether that’s going to the supermarket or going to a cafe with my girlfriend or driving a car. It’s been hard but hopefully it can get better soon.”
While McCartin’s future remains uncertain, the decision allows St Kilda to take a top player from state leagues around the country in tomorrow night’s draft.
