RICHMOND’S best 22 looks well short on quality based on Saturday night, but don’t judge them on one game, says JON ANDERSON. But the Dogs are gone. How is your club placed?

RICHMOND’S best 22 looks well short on quality based on a game like Saturday night, but don’t judge them on one game. But the Dogs are gone, says JON ANDERSON. How is your club placed?

THE TACKLE: ROBBO’S HEROES AND VILLAINS OF ROUND 16

END OF THE ROAD? WHY BUCKS, PIES SHOULD PART WAYS NOW

ADELAIDE 44 139%

Coaches hate to think their fortunes rest on one player but if the Texan doesn’t fire, then the Crows are up against it. When he starts moving smoothly, with extraordinary field kicking, they can beat anyone. Injuries: Sloane (calf). SuperCoach: Seven topped ton led by Walker (133).

GWS GIANTS 44 117.8%

Maybe the Giants’ premiership aspirations come down to the big Mummy. Is his body feeling the heat after years of a physical game style? His effectiveness, or lack thereof, would suggest yes. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Patton (five goals, 117) has had a big month. Kelly (134) a big year.

GEELONG 42 119%

Has anyone ever played a better first 39 games for a club than Dangerfield? Coleman, Farmer and Southby maybe. As for his team, it’s all about top two so playing GWS and Adelaide again is a positive. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Danger a lazy 165. Duncan (144) not far behind.

PORT ADELAIDE 36 132%

The Power’s most significant result this year and it comes on the back of Paddy, Charlie and the Hoff. But can they make the top two? Not for mine with a midfield that is honest but short of GWS, Geelong and Sydney. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Westhoff (136) led seven above ton.

MELBOURNE 36 110.8%

How appropriate Jetta was the hero with his three massive last quarter one-on-ones. A smaller version of Enright. And to think the Dees had Jones, Salem, Tyson and Viney missing from the middle. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Oliver (116) and T-Mac (100) the only Dees above 90.

Dustin Martin and the Tigers had an old-fashioned stinker against the Saints.
Dustin Martin and the Tigers had an old-fashioned stinker against the Saints.

RICHMOND 36 105.3%

On my God. When the Tigers lose, you look at their 22 and think the overall quality isn’t there. A mixture of kids who aren’t fully ready and three or four who never will be. But they deserve another chance. Injuries: Grimes (concussion). SuperCoach: Has Astbury (105) ever been top Tiger before? Martin and Cotch both under 75.

ST KILDA 36 104%

Paul Keating said a recession was one we had to have, so this was a win the Saints had to have. Maybe this was the moment they announced themselves. Ross is more than a good player ... he’s a star. Injuries: Longer (thigh). SuperCoach: Ross (151) was one of 10 Saints to break ton and Gilbert had 99.

SYDNEY 32 113.2%

As if it wasn’t bad enough for the Swans rivals without Good Gary turning up with a lazy five, plus Jack is back. And what about Grundy, I thought he was ready for a pension three years ago. Injuries: Jones (thigh). SuperCoach: Rohan (128 had day out in team effort.

WEST COAST 32 99.9%

Not quite good enough? Probably. Doesn’t mean enough? Surely not. The Eagles win/loss graph, even in a year of volatility, is more erratic than any other team, so back them next week. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Hutchings and Gaff both 91 in a dismal day.

ESSENDON 28 104.4%

Parish just needs his kicking, which is too high, to match his heart and run to become a really good player. Fantasia, when not being attacked by Maynard, required little to achieve plenty. Injuries: Hartley (thigh). SuperCoach: Zaha (120) led way and Merrett (109) had huge last term.

WESTERN BULLDOGS 28 92.4%

Have been loathe to write the Dogs off due to the respect they built last year, but now it’s official, they can’t win the flag. Gone, down and dusted, whatever else you like, the back-to-back dream is over. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Only five Dogs broke 80 led by McLean (123).

FREMANTLE 28 81.7%

Lyon gets unfairly whacked for not playing kids as he tries to rebuild the next purple haze. Sadly Ballantyne won’t be part of that revival as his mind says yes while the body says no. Injuries: Grey (shoulder), Hamling (hip), Sheridan (leg). SuperCoach: Fyfe (139) returned to 2015 form.

HAWTHORN 26 83.6%

Hartung, Sicily and Kiwi Heatherley in the best which is the future. The latter and Brand are being fast tracked as tall defenders which the Hawks so desperately require. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Mitchell (130) has been huge all year ... averages 117.

GOLD COAST 24 85.5%

Nothing much acceptable here, and it just means the Suns will be even more desperate to ensure Gazza stays. That he clearly remains their best player reflects poorly on highly-paid teammates. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Swallow (132) back to best. Witts (108) and Lyons (107) handy again.

COLLINGWOOD 20 94.6%

There is a real sameness about the Pies list, eight half-back flankers and no contested marking forwards. So who can take a grab? Langdon and Howe, so chuck at least one of them forward. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Sidey (106) only Pies to crack ton. Treloar just 61.

Tom Langdon takes a big grab against the Bombers.
Tom Langdon takes a big grab against the Bombers.

CARLTON 20 82.7%

Get ready for the arrogance to return which is just what the comp needs. The Blues are making the club an attractive venue for someone wanting finals and money, because they will pay. Injuries: Cripps (left leg), White (left knee). SuperCoach: Docherty (142) and Murphy (141) heads six Blues above ton. But did they win?

NORTH MELBOURNE 16 92.7%

Ziebell did everything a captain could do, bar kick that late goal. But that is North, a side that loses the close ones. Nielson, Mountford and Hibberd had their moments as they try to discover the next wave. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Goldy (129) is averaging 100.

BRISBANE LIONS 12 68.8%

Zorko consistently proves how recruiting can never be an exact science. As for BOG, which could be vital regarding a small medal, you have to ask yourself the question: Danger or Z? I’ll go with the latter. Injuries: Walker (concussion). SuperCoach: Zorko (196) now averages 116. AA?
