Port Adelaide has suffered an unplanned footy restart setback with star Robbie Gray hurting himself in a bizarre training mishap.

As the Power tries to manage numerous obstacles around the season resuming it received news Gray had dropped a weight on his foot, breaking his toe.

Chief executive Keith Thomas said the game-breaking forward was still on track to play in Round 2 despite the injury.

“Robbie (Gray) dropped a weight on his toe,” he said on SEN SA.

“We think it’s broken but he’ll be fine for Round 2.

“He’ll be back today running on the anti-gravity machine.”

Port and the Crows received a boost late on Tuesday when the State Government granted both clubs special permission to resume full training on Monday, pushing back a planned move to a Queensland hub.

Premier Steven Marshall is lobbying the AFL for a Showdown at Adelaide Oval in Round 2. The match could provide a Friday night blockbuster after the season resumes on Thursday, June 11 with an expected Richmond v Collingwood clash at the MCG.

“I am hoping it can. It’s a very logical fixture. I have spoken to the AFL about that possibility but they are the ones who do the fixture,” he said.

“Could you imagine it? Port and Crows, it would give them another week in South Australia and it would keep them in South Australia a lot longer.”
