PORT Adelaide has confirmed free agents Jackson Trengove and Jasper Pittard both want to stay at the club next year and could sign new contracts within three weeks.
Power football manager Chris Davies said the defenders had told the club they wanted to remain at Alberton and there was constant dialogue with their managers.
Trengove is a restricted free agent meaning Port Adelaide has the opportunity to match any offer he gets from a rival club but Pittard is unrestricted and can walk to wherever he wants.
“We’re really comfortable with where things are at at the moment and pleased that both of those players have suggested they want to stay at the footy club,” Davies told FIVEaa.
“We’re fortunate that the majority of our players want to stay, we’re in negotiations with Jackson’s manager as we have been with Jasper and a number of our other players who are out of contract.
“We’re comfortable with where things are at at the moment and I’m sure that over the next three or four weeks things will unfold.
“We’ve been really clear with all of our guys that we’ll get to things as we see the need, clearly with Jackson and Jasper based on their free agency status there is an ability for us to wait and see.
“But I would expect over the course of the next three or four weeks we’ll be much clearer on where both Jasper and Jacko are at.”
The Power has been linked in media reports to rival free agents Tom Rockliff (Brisbane) and Steven Motlop (Geelong) but Davies would not confirm or deny that was the case.
“It’s really interesting isn’t it, with free agency now everyone gets a list of players they can go through,” he said.
“From our club’s perspective it wasn’t that long ago that people were suggesting that our salary cap was so tight that we were going to have to tip blokes out.
“We’re not going to comment on who is potentially going to come into the club, needless to say that all of the list managers across the competition wouldn’t be doing their job well enough if they weren’t trying to ascertain what the movements were of players whether they were free agents or guys who were out of contract at their clubs.”
