Port Adelaide assistant coach Michael Voss has heaped praise on young first-round draftee Mitch Georgiades and suggested he’s in the mix for a round one debut.

The tall forward was selected by Port with pick 18 in last year’s draft, and Voss said on SEN Breakfast on Friday morning he’s been “very impressed” with him so far.

“He probably brings something completely different to what we’ve had,” he said.

“His ability to get up the ground, he has some really good speed and I think you’ll hear everyone talking about how well he marks a ball.

“He’s very much so in the mix for round one.

“If we sat down tomorrow, he’d probably be in it.”

The Power has their internal trial tonight at Alberton Oval before to Marsh Series games against the Brisbane Lions and Western Bulldogs, and Voss is eager to see how he goes.

“We’re eager to give him exposure in the pre-season games and see how he matches up with some of the bigger bodies.”

At the other end of the ground, Port Adelaide had some issues with some tall forwards, highlighted by conceding 10 goals to North Melbourne’s Ben Brown.

Yet, Voss believes there’s no concerns on how the club will combat tall forwards or the departure of Dougal Howard.

“It’s not a concern for us with how we combat that,” he said.

“Trent McKenzie had a great back end of last year and he’s stepped into pre-season really well.

“He’s been in some good form for a long period of time.”

While the Power’s youth has been a positive sign, there have been concerns around recent recruits, including Steven Motlop.

Yet, Voss has said his praised the former Cat, suggesting his pre-season form has been strong.

“There’s some senior players that have had some great pre-seasons, Robbie Gray is one, he’s moving as well as I’ve seen him move,” he said.

“Motlop is another whose training form has been really strong and he’s certainly a guy that’s not going to give up his position for sure.”
