North Melbourne recruit Aaron Hall is determined to prove critics wrong, declaring a perceived weakness around the defensive side of his game has been blown out of proportion.

Hall, 28, will begin full contact training in coming weeks desperate to earn his stripes at Arden St as an inside midfielder.

“I don’t really read too much into the critics,” Hall said.

“I don’t think it is a major issue, so I’m looking forward to proving some people wrong.

“I’m coming here first and foremost to earn the respect of my teammates, the coaches and North Melbourne supporters and from there everything just falls into place.

“It’s probably easy to criticise players, league wide, around the defensive side, especially midfielders, that are in a team that predominantly loses.

“Some teams, some players, may get away with it who are in successful sides, that’s just the industry I suppose.

“I’ll work on all aspects of my game … my offense probably far outweighs my defence but I’ll come in here and buy in all aspects of the game.”

Kangaroos coach Brad Scott has given Hall a “clear and precise” plan, with the speedster likely to work in tandem with Shaun Higgins in a midfield-forward role.

Hall played 103 “rocky” games at Gold Coast Suns.

He battled injuries, including a season-ending pectoral tear five months ago.

His form, specifically around defensive pressure, was also questioned.

But Hall said the decision to leave the Glitter Strip was based on a hunger for success.

Tom Lynch and Steven May also defected in the off-season.

“I think for us guys that (success) probably was a driving force,” Hall said.

“I’m 28 years of age, I probably only got four, five or six years left.

“For me it was trying to get somewhere I thought there would be some success, but also in terms of changing something up, it felt like a bit of insanity doing the same thing and getting the same result.”

Hall sat out the light session today at Arden St, while recruit Jared Polec spent the morning screening in the gym.

Recruit Jasper Pittard, Mason Wood and Marley Williams we’re among senior Kangaroos in action, along with second-year ace Luke Davies-Uniacke.
