JARRAD Waite is set to play on at North Melbourne next season.

The Herald Sun revealed on Tuesday the Kangaroos tabled an offer to the enigmatic forward.

Waite’s lifeline comes amid a swift and savage regeneration at Arden Street.

Waite, 34, booted 22 goals in 10 games this season between separate shoulder and calf injuries.

The athletic forward was suspended for one game.

His frustrating season included bags of six, four, four and three goals.

Despite question marks over age and durability, the Kangaroos believe Waite will have an impact in 2018 alongside spearhead Ben Brown and emerging forwards Mason Wood and Ben McKay.

Waite was trialled successfully up the ground in the second half of the season.

He started across half back againt Gold Coast in Round 15 and finished with 19 disposals including four goals and seven inside 50s.

The Kangaroos could re-sign All-Australian defender Scott Thompson, Ben Jacobs and Declan Mountford in coming weeks.

Mountford showed promise in 2017, playing 12 consecutive games from Round 13 after being dumped following the season-opener.

But Jacobs, who carved a niche as a tagger in 2015, has not played a senior game in 18 months plagued by ongoing foot and ankle problems.

The Kangaroos are poised to rebuild through the national and rookie drafts after delisting six players in the off-season, including Aaron Mullet and Corey Wagner on Tuesday.

Mullett played 85 games in seven seasons, while Wagner mustered eight games in two years.

“Aaron fought hard for promotion off the rookie list on two occasions early in his career which showed his dedication and perseverance,” Kangaroos football manager Cameron Joyce said.

“He’s been a fantastic servant of the club for the past seven years and we sincerely hope he can resurrect his AFL career with another club.”

The Kangaroos are not expected to be major players in the AFL trade period.
