Melbourne says Steven May is still on track to play in Round 1 after suffering a hamstring injury.
May, who joined the Demons from Gold Coast during the trade period, will miss the AFLX tournament after he was hurt at training.
He is expected to be sidelined for 3-4 weeks.

Demons football manager Josh Mahoney said that timeframe put May in line for a return during the JLT Series.
Melbourne will face Richmond in Shepparton on March 3 and the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on March 9 in its two pre-season matches. It has a Round 1 date with Port Adelaide at the MCG on March 23.
“We are confident that Steven completed a large portion of the pre-season sessions prior to this setback which provides a strong base leading into the season,” Mahoney told the Demons website.
The pre-season setback is another hit to Melbourne’s defensive stocks. Jake Lever is on the comeback trail after requiring more surgery in December to clean up scar tissue on his reconstructed left knee. He is due back mid-season.
Running defender Kade Kolodjashnij, who also crossed from Gold Coast to Melbourne as part of the May deal, has stepped away from the main group to help mend a fresh adductor complaint.
May was selected in this week’s AFLX draft by Deadlys captain Eddie Betts. He will be replaced by St Kilda forward Jade Gresham.
