The great skinfold conspiracy at Hawthorn has finally been revealed.
There have been whispers about players manipulating results during the Hawks successful era and two of its premiership heroes, Jordan Lewis and Jarryd Roughead, have finally spilt the beans.
Speaking on a Fox Footy special podcast ‘The Golden Years’, the pair recalled how they worked together to beat the system.
“Roughie and I would go in together, especially after the off-season break,” Lewis explained. “He would have an idea where I sat with my skin folds and I would have an idea where he sat.
“The process was the dietitian would be there measuring your skin folds and I would be there scribing. So when she said ’13.5 on the stomach’ … (I’d write) nine. We did that for the best part of 10 years and we never got caught.”

Lewis said the club had calculated just how overweight the players had come back after the 2008 premiership.
“We came back with an extra person in fat (after the 2009 flag),” he said. “After the skin folds were done, they then can equate to weight and it was an extra person going into the 2009 season.
“Roughie and (Stuart) Dewy went overseas to Europe which probably didn’t help.”
The second part of the podcast, which is hosted by Tom Morris and will be released later this week, delves into the breakdown between coach Alistair Clarkson and superstar Lance Franklin and the Hawks stunning three peat.
