HAWTHORN now has another link to the Langford family.
The Hawks picked up Lachlan Langford, the brother of premiership player Will and son of club great Chris, with pick No.53 overall in the rookie draft on Wednesday.
Lachlan trained briefly with the Hawks this year and joins the club from Melbourne Grammar School.
Hawthorn recruiting manager Graham Wright said the Hawks viewed Langford as a future key position player.
“Having another Langford at the club is great, we’re rapt to be able to give Lachie a chance and see where he can go in the next couple of years,” Wright told the club’s website.
“He played at Melbourne Grammar only this year, he played about five or six games for them but we had him out here and did a little bit of work with him.
“He’s exciting; he’s nearly 190cm, he’s athletic, he’s got long arms, he can mark the footy.
“We think in time, he’ll be more like a key position player but at this stage he can play that high half forward role.
“He has good endurance, kicks the ball well.”
Langford was one of four players picked up by the Hawks in yesterday’s rookie draft.
Hawthorn selected midfielder Jared Hardisty (Claremont) with pick No.18 and forward Jermaine Miller-Lewis (South Fremantle) at No.36.
The Hawks also used pick No.65 to re-draft ruckman-forward Sam Grimley after he was delisted by the club last month.
