Toby Greene admits the AFL had to act on his studs-up marking style but says having a rule introduced just for him is something he can “tell the grandkids about”.
The GWS star indicated he’s already started practising to get the lifelong habit of going in boots and all out of his game, joking that Giants assistant coach Adam Schneider is pleased to no longer be getting kicked at training.

NEW RULES: GIANTS READY FOR BIG RULE CHANGE
Former Giants teammate Devon Smith, 25, was pinged for going studs-up last weekend for Essendon in a warning from umpires that the AFL is cracking down on the Greene-trait that created a storm of debate leading into last year’s finals.
But while the superstar forward can laugh about AFL boss Gill McLachlan immortalising him in the laws of the game with the “Toby Greene rule”, he concedes administrators had to eradicate the ugly look from the game.
“I’ll be telling the grandkids, that’s for sure,” Greene said.
“(But) it probably didn’t look too good. There was a bit of fanfare about it so I guess they had to change it.
“It was something I’ve done since I was a little kid. Until they’ve changed the rule, (now) I guess I’ll have to stop it. It’s just all part of it.
“I haven’t seen (the Devon Smith incident) but a few of the boys mentioned it. I guess it’s something I’ll have to change and it’s something a few boys might have to change throughout the year. I don’t think it’ll affect me in any way.”
The All-Australian dynamo was straight back to his best in last week’s trial against Adelaide, and is planning to play a full intra-club match today.
Greene’s 2018 season was plagued by injuries, but he has declared he is ready to start round one next week against Essendon at full fitness.
