AUSTRALIA has been dealt a major blow ahead of its two-test series against Ireland, with GWS star Toby Greene ruled out of the upcoming International Rules series due to injury.

And the injury was picked up in very strange circumstances.

The Giants announced on Thursday night that Greene would miss the November series with a broken little toe.

The club said Greene suffered the injury after he “accidentally (hit) his left foot against a wall” while overseas in New York.

“While this is a minor injury, it will mean Toby misses the International Rules Series which was an opportunity we had encouraged Toby to take up,” GWS football manager Wayne Campbell said.

A replacement for Greene has yet to be named or confirmed for the two tests against the Irish on November 12 and 18.

Despite the setback, GWS says it won’t impact Greene’s pre-season campaign.

”Fortunately for the Giants, Toby will be ready to commence pre-season training with us on December 4,” Campbell said.
