The hit stunned the Cats ball-winner and he had to be helped from the ground by club trainers.

One of the AFL’s all-time best tacklers, Sydney great Jude Bolton praised Mumford on Twitter.

“One of the great tackles from big Mummy” he said.

The Giants were running hot in the third quarter at StarTrack Oval with Will Hoskin-Elliott taking a stunning mark just minutes later.

As Tom Scully launched a long ball forward, Hoskin-Elliott jumped on Cats defender Lachie Henderson’s shoulders to claim an early Mark of the Year contender.
