GWS Giants big man Rory Lobb signs contract extension

BIG improver Rory Lobb has resisted the go-home factor to sign a contract extension with GWS.

GREATER Western Sydney has secured big improver Rory Lobb on two-year contract extension.

The 23-year-old ruck-forward enjoyed a breakout season in 2017, becoming a key member of the Giants as they reached the preliminary final.

The Western Australian had attracted the interest of both Perth-based clubs but followed Demon Jesse Hogan in rejecting a move back home.

Lobb kicked a career-high 29 goals and former a dangerous forward line triumvirate with Jeremy Cameron and Jon Patton.

After signing on the dotted line, Lobb said he was looking forward to helping GWS make history in the near future.

“As a playing group, we took some big steps this year and I think there is still plenty of improvement in us which is exciting,” he told the club website.

“I’ve grown really close to my teammates and I believe that if we stick together, we can hopefully achieve the ultimate success in the future.”

GWS general manager of football Wayne Campbell was equally pleased and said Lobb’s re-signing is a significant one for the club.

“We believe he’s got a really bright future and we see him as a key member of our team in the coming years,” he said.

“Like many of our players, he’s taken enormous steps forward this year and it’s terrific that he wants to stay with this group as we aim to continue to climb the AFL ladder.”
