JOEL Selwood has his brother Scott covered on the football field, but did the younger brother get one over his Geelong teammate in the Lorne Pier to Pub swim?

SCOTT Selwood says he has his brother Joel covered in almost every competitive environment except for the one that matters most — football.

The Geelong brothers swam the Lorne Pier to Pub on Saturday and Scott once again was the first to set foot on terra firma after finishing the 1.2km course almost two minutes ahead.

“Joel’s generally last, but he had a new wetsuit this year that he thought was going to drag him over the line,” the youngest Selwood joked.

He said trumping Joel was nothing new.

“I’ve got him covered in most departments besides football — table tennis, any of that sort of stuff, I’ll try to take the bragging rights,” he said.

“But when it comes to football he’s got more medals and more trophies than me, so he’s well and truly got me in the most important thing.”

Selwood said the swimming Cats headed into Sunday’s event slightly underdone.

“During pre-season afternoons you’ve got good intentions to prepare, but by the time afternoon comes around usually a nap is more important than a trip down the ocean,” he said.

“You end up getting caught up on the couch, having a bit of a sleep and then all of a sudden it’s dinner time.”

Swimming aside, Scott said the one sport that he had all three brothers — Troy, Adam and Joel — covered in was table tennis.

“During my first year at the Cats I spent most of the year off with injury and Jackson Thurlow had done his knee, so to try and keep the competitive juices flowing we joined the local table tennis centre,” he said.

“Mitch Clark was down here at the time and he used to kill both of us, but we used to go down there and join in and have a good chuckle.”
