IT’S known as ‘The Robbert Klomp Award’ in media circles when a commentator makes a howler in selecting their votes from games.

The origin of the award dates back to 1981 at VFL Park when Klomp turned out for Carlton against Fitzroy in a pre-season match.

Collingwood legend Lou Richards awarded Klomp a brand new TV for best-on-ground even though the dour defender had touched the ball just nine times for the night.

The latest contender isn’t from the media, it’s from the coaching ranks with GWS Giants coach Leon Cameron putting up his hand.

Every Monday the AFL Coaches Association releases its votes from each game with both coaches awarding 5-4-3-2-1.

There were a few raised eyebrows when the Geelong-GWS votes came in with Cats captain Joel Selwood coming in ranked equal third.

Geelong ruckman Zac Smith polled nine, GWS midfielder Dylan Shiel six with Selwood and Cam Guthrie next on five.

It was universally agreed that Selwood won the game for Geelong, having 12 disposals in the final quarter to carry his team over the line.

He finished with 29 touches which included 18 contested, eight clearances, seven tackles, 23 pressure acts and one goal.

While the identity of each coaches votes aren’t revealed, it’s understood Chris Scott was very, very, very happy with his skipper’s performance.

HOLE IN 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

AUSTRALIA’S Rod Pampling produced a quirky final round at the US PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament.

His round of 71 was noteworthy for the fact that his scorecard included a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

This rare feat didn’t do him much good with the Queenslander coming in tied for 61st.

THE WHISPER

There was no lasting animosity after the Geelong v GWS clash with Steve Johnson sharing some beers with his former teammates at Harry Taylor’s 30th birthday party after the game on Saturday night.
