Geelong waiting for decision from Tim Kelly as it weighs up tough list calls

GEELONG is in limbo over a potential Tim Kelly trade as it weighs up tough calls on players including Daniel Menzel, Jordan Murdoch and Jackson Thurlow.

TIM Kelly’s manager says he is yet to request a trade from Geelong as the Cats prepare to make a series of tough calls on players in coming days.

The exciting West Australian midfielder has consistently been linked to a return home, with speculation he is ready to declare his hand before the trade period starts on Monday.

But his manager Anthony van der Weilen said on Thursday that “no decision has been made on Tim’s future”.

He spent a month with his partner and their children in Geelong post-season hoping to acclimatise to the city before returning to Perth for a holiday in coming days.

Across the competition players from Fremantle’s Lachie Neale to West Coast’s Andrew Gaff have been keen to wait until their best-and-fairest nights before making their decisions official. The Cats’ function is tonight.

Daniel Menzel’s manager Adam Ramanauskas told RSN Radio he is less confident than last year that his client will be offered a deal by Geelong.

Menzel was linked to the Bulldogs after St Kilda’s interest cooled, but it is not yet apparent where he find a home next year.

Menzel has kicked 100 goals in the past three seasons and averages 2.1 goals a game, equal-13th in the competition in the past two years.

But his pressure is still the worst of all medium-sized forwards and he missed a large chunk of this year with a groin issue that flared after several injections into the area.

Geelong has already delisted six players including Cory Gregson and Stewart Crameri, will lose Lincoln McCarthy to Brisbane and George Horlin-Smith to Gold Coast.

If Menzel, Jordan Murdoch and Jackson Thurlow also left the Cats list turnover would exceed 10 players.
