GEELONG forward Daniel Menzel has re-signed with the club until the end of 2018.

GEELONG forward Daniel Menzel has re-signed with the club until the end of 2018.

The South Australian put pen to paper with the Cats on Wednesday afternoon.

Menzel exercised his right as a free-agent during the trade period to search for a new home but could not find any clubs willing to offer him a deal that suited his requirements.

Geelong list manager Stephen Wells said the Cats were delighted to have secured Menzel for another season.

“It’s good for Dan and the club that we can just get on with things now,” Wells said.

“We’re looking for a big year out of Dan and all of our players.

“It was always a possibility that he would exercise his free agent rights but he hasn’t so we’re happy and looking forward to 2018.”

There had been reasonable levels of interest in him from his home state but no deal was able to be reached during the free agency period.

Menzel has played 37 games in the past two seasons and kicked 73 goals since coming back from four knee reconstructions.
