JOSH Green will remain at Essendon in 2018 after agreeing to a one-year deal.

The small forward was recruited as a delisted free agent at the end of last year, signing a one-year deal, and proved a nice pick-up for the Bombers as he booted 17 goals from 17 matches.

“I’m really thankful to Essendon for the opportunity they have given me,” Green said.

“I believe we have an exciting group of youth and experience, and if we put our heads down and work hard, success will follow.

“I’m excited to get stuck into training and continue striving towards achieving our team’s goals in the 2018 season.”

Green’s season was cut short this year after suffering a foot injury in Round 22. He did not feature in the Bombers’ finals loss to Sydney.

The 25-year old will form part of one of the most dangerous and exciting forward lines in the competition next year, lining up alongside Joe Daniher, Cale Hooker, Orazio Fantasia and recruits Jake Stringer and Devon Smith.

The former Lion adds a different dimension to that forward group as a pressure small forward and genuine crumber.

Competition for spots inside the Essendon forward 50 will be hot next year, with Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti also in the mix.

“Josh worked really well in our forward line this year. He added a dimension that we were looking for and he’s a very clever player,” Essendon coach John Worsfold said.

“We believe as he continues to build his fitness base, he will have an even bigger impact for us.

“Coming off a pretty serious injury and being really limited the previous year, we we’re rapt with the way he attacked his rehab program and got himself fit for the season.”
