James Hird is back in the fold at Essendon.

The former coach will join a new Bombers podcast alongside Jobe Watson and chief executive Xavier Campbell, which will air on Wednesday.

The podcast, titled ‘Working Through It’, will be live streamed on the club’s website with fans able to ring in and ask questions of the trio about the past, present and future.

Hird’s appearance on the podcast is a step forward for Essendon and Hird as the club and its former champion continue to heal their relationship following the supplements saga.

It will be the first time Hird has appeared on an official club platform since he was effectively sacked in 2015.

Bombers coach John Worsfold and president Lindsay Tanner have both publicly said Hird is welcome back at Essendon, the club where he won two premierships and a Brownlow Medal, at any time despite his controversial exit.

Hird did not attend Essendon’s 1993 premiership reunion in 2018 despite initially saying he would be there. The event was held a week after premiership teammate and Hird’s assistant coach during the drugs saga, Mark Thompson, was arrested.

Hird was coach of the club during the 2012 supplements saga that saw 34 Bombers players receive 12-month doping bans.

Hird was also banned for 12 months for his role, while the club was fined $2 million and booted out of the 2013 finals series.
