The midfielder, set to be one of the most popular forwards in SuperCoach in 2019, will train without contact next week, but is expected to resume full training the following week.

Essendon’s first JLT game is on February 28 against Carlton. Smith was not selected for AFLX on February 22.

A revelation in his first season after crossing from Greater Western Sydney, Smith won Essendon’s best and fairest in 2018 and was the AFL’s premier tackler with 186.
