A man involved in claims of a fight with footy great Mark “Bomber” Thompson has declined to make a police statement after Bomber laughed off reports he had stuffed the man into the boot of his car.

Bomber Thompson's fall from grace

A man involved in a reported confrontation with footy great Mark “Bomber” Thompson in Melbourne’s west has declined to make a police statement.

Police were called to reports of an altercation between the pair in Yarraville on Tuesday after a third party contacted them about an incident.

Channel 7 News on Friday night stated Thompson had put the other man in the boot of his car in a disagreement over money.

A Victoria Police spokesman said officers who attended Tuesday’s scene spoke with the person who made the complaint and an alleged victim.

That alleged victim did not want to make a statement over the matter.

“Police believe all parties are known to each other. No official report has been made to police,” the force spokesman said.

Thompson laughed off claims he shoved a man into his car boot, joking to the Herald Sun he wouldn’t have fit in.

The former Essendon captain and Geelong coach dismissed the Seven News reports he had fought with the man.

“I’m fine mate, I never got into a fight,” Thompson said.

Thompson, 56, said he had driven to Yarraville to visit a friend who owed him money.

“I went to get the money and we had a bit of an argument,” he said.

“We went for a drive and then I dropped him off home later, and he never came out of the boot, I know that.

“It’s overblown — I couldn’t get him in the boot, he probably wouldn’t fit in my boot.”

Thompson said he had let the man, who lives in the inner-western suburb, use his phone because he had forgotten to bring his out.

“He used my phone three times, no problems — I’ve known him for years, he’s a friend,” he said.

Thompson, who captained Essendon’s 1993 premiership team and coached Geelong to two flags, said he was not aware of any police involvement, despite reports both men had declined to give statements to officers.

Thompson was sentenced in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court to a 12-month community corrections order last July for possessing methamphetamine, MDA, LSD and unprescribed Xanax.

Trafficking charges stemming from a 2018 police raid on his Port Melbourne home were dismissed.

Bomber Thompson has said he no lonker wants to talk about or watch footy after his life spiralled out of control in the wake of the supplements scandal.

In an emotional interview with the Herald Sun last year, Thompson revealed his life had spiralled out of control after the Bombers’ supplements scandal.

Thompson, who was diagnosed with depression and severe post-traumatic stress disorder, said he had lost total interest in the sport that made him a footy legend.

Opening up on his two broken marriages and mental health battle, he confessed he had been to dark places.

“I’m just sad. I’m just disappointed — I lost my friendships, I’ve lost my social life,” he said.

“All the people I’ve grown up with are around footy, and I don’t like footy any more — I don’t want to talk about footy, I haven’t seen footy.”
