Essendon could enter their SCG clash against Sydney with its star trio of small forwards injured or sore after Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti’s weekend ankle injury.
The 27-year-old match-winner rolled his ankle at training and while he hasn’t yet been ruled out he is unlikely to take on the Swans.
Orazio Fantasia is already unavailable with a quad injury and while Jake Stringer will play he was sore on Saturday after his foot was stepped on at training.
Last year Stringer kicked a team-high 33 goals, followed by McDonald-Tipungwuti (32), the delisted Mitch Brown (21) and Fantasia (20) and Shaun McKernan (17).
But McKernan will return after missing Round 1 with illness, a clash where the Bombers bounced out to an early lead and then held off a fast-finishing Fremantle.

The Dons will be on an 8am flight to Sydney for their 3.35pm SCG game against a Swans side that beat Adelaide at Adelaide Oval by three points in Round 1.
Essendon is also missing star forward Joe Daniher, who has dropped 6kg in an effort to regain fitness after two years of groin issues.
The Dons have Irishman Conor McKenna available and pushing for a small forward role after clearing quarantine when he returned to Melbourne.
The Dons then take on Melbourne in Round 3 ahead of clashes against Carlton and Collingwood.
