Scott Pendlebury cleared of coronavirus after being quarantined from teammates

Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury does not have coronavirus.
The Magpies star has been quarantined from his teammates as he awaited test results for COVID-19.
He presenting with flu-like symptoms late last week and missed scheduled training sessions on Friday and on Monday morning.
Pendlebury received the result this morning and tweeted: “All clear!”
The news is a huge relief for the football community after league boss Gillon McLachlan said it would effectively put the brakes on the season if a player tested positive.
Earlier, coach Nathan Buckley said the club was still in the dark.
“Pendles is one of three or four of our guys who have had cold symptoms and have had that checked up and I’d reckon that would be a fairly consistent situation or scenario across the 18 clubs let along the rest of society in Australia,” coach Nathan Buckley said.
“Pendles himself basically had a little bit of a runny nose and was diligent in presenting that to the doc and there was enough there to actually warrant getting the test.
“Obviously that’s another unknown but it won’t be a scenario that we won’t see pretty often over the next months.”

While Pendlebury was cleared, Buckley said he didn’t know what the impact would be if a player tested positive before Round 1, which is still scheduled to get underway on Thursday night.
“I don’t know exactly what the decision will be from the AFL as such,” Buckley said on Footy Classified.
“Clearly there’s protocols in place for any person who tests positive in our society and that is to self-isolate for two weeks and that would be the case for Scott.
“What that means for the people around him in the environment, I’m not as aware of and what that means for the competition going forward or our capacity to compete is yet to be seen.
“Whilst the focus is on one player at the moment, I’ve got little doubt that there are other people in the football programs that are in the same situation and that is the reality of what we’re facing at the moment.”
Collingwood last night confirmed Pendlebury’s status on Monday night.
“He was tested for the COVID-19 virus as a precaution and the results of his test are expected in the next 24 hours,” a spokesperson told the Herald Sun.
“Pendlebury has not been at the club and will return once he has received medical approval to do so.”
The Magpies are due to face the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Friday night.
